Have a few question and CARB and inspections in CA

I am getting ready to be stationed in San Diego and was trying to find out about the smog laws out for title my 1996 4runner in CA. The on I have is not a Cali model it is a 48 state one so will this keep me from getting it tagged in CA right now I live in Va and does not have smog inspections I am form TN and can tag it there so I will not have to worry about inspections the time I am there. If someone could give me some Info on the laws out there that would be great.

I think it will probably be fine but in my opinion if you can tag it anywhere else do it. The DMV fees here are ridiculous.

you will be fine. non-California vehicles are tested differently.

I would say get it tagged outside CA just to save on the registration fee but to be honest for a 3rd gen 4Runner it will probably be only $100.

Now if you were buying a new $30k 4Runner the annual charge would be be about $400.00

^^^this is true. But the difference is ca $100 for 1 year or a state like our neighbor az $69 for 5 years. I pick az. just my option

I can do Tennessee Becuase that is my home of record and will not have to worry about a state inspection. Thanks for everyone's help..
