Have new tires AND concerns

My tires are installed and I cut cut cut but I checked the old post and someone mentioned I HAVE to do a Body mount chop? Have to if rubbing OR if no rubbing no chop? What is the chop for? I have no rubbing issues even at full turn BUT I am going to Rausch Creek this weekend so IF I need to do something I have to do it NOW!

Also, I just got a FULL size spare tire 285/70/17 and it fit "?" in the original spare tire area; GREAT! BUT there is maybe a molecule of space between the tire and a thick rod/pipe/sway bar/pan hard bar. Is this ok? I will say that at least for Rausch creek I am thinking of placing the tire inside the 4Runner so the spare does not interfere with articulation (?) when we go offroad.

The body mount chop is only done to gain additional clearance. From what little I've read, I would think you will be fine on the road but may end up rubbing on the trail. To my knowledge this is mainly an issue when you're turning all the way to one side. So, either do the chop or limit how far you steer (IF you notice rubbing, you may not).

Can't believe you got that to fit, that's one thing that's keeping me from the 285's. Only thing I can think of is that the v6 has a smaller hitch than the v8, thus more room under there. As long as it clears you should be fine, I'm not aware of any issues.

Thanks Ark. I'll post a pic of it to show you. Maybe it fits also cause 285 Duratrac and there's not too many of those around - yet.
After our wheelin weekend, I'll try and post if I had any issues.

I think I remember one guy running a 3/2 lift and 1.5" body lift and still having rubbing with those tires. Here's a good thread showing/discussing the chop.

If you aren't rubbing now...I wouldn't worry about it. May it rub when stuffed? Probably, but does it matter if it rubs a couple times offroad? no...

You can run a deflated spare. If you do so then you would of course need to also bring means to inflate it.

Yep, without the hitch you've got more room under there than most. That tire wouldn't fit with a hitch.

So i'm running a similar set up as you (3" lift, 285's and spidertrax). Unlike Tony, I do rub my body mount going over bumps while turning my wheels on road. Offroading i rub the mount even more but doesn't prevent me from going over obstacles. FWIW, i'm rubbing body panels and the body mount.

You'll probably be ok for this trip having the spare in there but I know another member who had a worn down 285 in the stock location and it ended up rubbing the paint off the panhard bar but didn't limit articulation.

Basically, you'll be fine. Just keep an eye on both the body mount and pan hard bar and see if you need to make adjustments after the trip.

I just got my Kelly Safari TSR 285/70's (sibling to the GY Dura's) I don't rub either so far, but I will be picking up my wheel spacers to push my tires away from the spindle that's like .25 - .5" away from my tires. Did you see this, or did you have the spacers before putting on the larger tires?

So far I have no body rubbing with no trimming, but I do rub on the frame at full lock. Curious to see what the spacers do.

I truly do need to chip my body mount on mine. Or as another person said maybe a 5lb hammer may work to beat it back just a bit.

Strange that some folks have rubbing and others don't. I have minor rub when stuffed but not on the body mount. I gave credit to the Spidertrax but apparently that's not enough for some people.

I had to chop mine. Maybe because I have light racing UCA's and that probably pushes the wheel back to where it's supposed to be with a proper alignment.
