Having Rear Locker Problems on a '98

I am having problems engaging and disengaging my rear lockers. When I first got the car last year I could press the e-locker button and I could hear the lockers engage right away. I havent been using them at all and lately I decided I better actuate them. Well now then only actuate when I am on 4lo and but the car in reverse. When I press the button to disengage the elocker...the light will stay on and it takes several tries before the light will go away. Has anyone had a similiar experience or know of a fix for it? Could it be a lose connection? Or is it just a gummed up actuator? I would rather not take it in to the stealer for repairs if possible.

When you are trying to disengage the locker are you still in 4LO or have you shifted back to 4hi or 2hi already? If I accidentally shift back into 4hi or 2hi before disengaging my RR DIFF LOCK lights stays on. Also, sometimes if you are stopped the locker will not disengage either. Try hitting the button to disengage it, then moving forward or backward a bit. If this doesn't work, then your question is passed my knowledge.

The locker will only engage in 4lo and when I disengage mine it takes a couple of seconds to disengage which can be done by moving forward and back and then come to a complete stop and it should disengage.

I played around last night and it seems to disenge in 4lo if i move forward. The truck will move forward then I hear a slight snap ping sound and the light goes off. Same thing when I activate it. I have to press the button in 4lo then move a bit then it will eventually engage while the car is moving.

Will engaging the locker with forward motion damage anything? Cause the sticker on the side of the door says the elocker should only be engaged with the wheels not moving.

No, it won't hurt anything. Actually, even in the manual, it says that you might have to move forward or back to have it engage/disengage.
