Having Some Issues

I've been having some issues lately when I put my 4runner into drive first thing in the morning it won't move. I will give it some gas and eventually after a few seconds the 4runner will move slowly as if it's getting over a bump. After this the 4runner runs great and will go into drive no problem.

I also noticed that occasionally when I stop a bit abruptly at low speeds one of my rear brakes will lock up. It happened last week when I was going 10 mph and caused my tire to screech to a stop. Not sure if this is related.

I did some research and found people having issues with their e-brake cable binding.
Possibly the rear axle seals have soaked the pads and they are sticking.
The transmission filter is clogged and needs a drain and refill of the ATF.
The shift solenoids are going bad or sticking.

Anyone have any input on this? I looked at my rear axle and there is no evidence of the rear diff fluid at all. I will be pulling the rear drums off this weekend to check for fluid and check the e-brake cable. I have greased my driveshaft 5k ago, but haven't changed the ATF yet.


Another issue I noticed was my passenger rear shock has a thick film of black sludge on the forward facing portion of the shock. Any idea what that could be? The other side is clean.

Can you normally lock up your rear wheels when you engage the e brake when driving?

Obviously like you said check the e brake cable first. Leave it on for the night, and the next morning check how much tension is on it after you release it.

Also take the brake covers off the back drums and check out the shoes and the springs in there, sometimes they can freeze up or the little springs can pop off and bind up somewhere. Good luck buddy!
