Ahhh, I see. Well, I'm glad you're still with the T4R family! Haha when I saw your post on craigs I thought to myself "damn that's a really nice 4Runner...looks familiar though." Although the FJ's are pretty sweet your 4Runner is definitely a keeper.

Will do, I'll be there sometime in early June. My official start date is June 16, but I will fly in a little earlier to settle in. I really want to bring the 4Runner, but I'm kinda worried that it'll get stolen; just in the past few weeks 3 Tacomas and one Civic were stolen from the Hilo area. People getting desperate.

Too bad no more the Superferry, if not I could just bring it for a weekend for cruise!

New Member on the site, moved to the island last week, picked this up off Craigslist today!

Don't know yet, glad to have it! love driving it, the two owners ago they put on a lift on the rear, I assume to help w/ sag, and the TRAC and VSC lights are permanently on, the ABS light is also permanently on (although I got it to shut off yesterday only to have it come back on.) I'm going to check the brakes out first, I also believe there may be a slight exhaust leak up forward, it's got a loud rumble to it when I take off, sounds like a leak rather than special pipes, but I'll know more next time I crawl underneath.

If I mess with the suspension I'll probably just upgrade the stock components, but retain stock height, haven't ever looked at the 4-runner aftermarket, so I'll have to see what's out there! I know the possibilities are endless!

OH Yeah, HEAVY WATER SPOTS on the paint and windows, washing wouldn't get rid of it, I saw a post on another thread about a product to use.

Would not agree. Managed to get my wife's 2WD 2001 SR5 stuck in the sand at Bellows beach going through a soft spot. Most embarassing, guys watching just said: "Put it in 4WD!"

They assumed all 4Runners were 4WD I guess.

Now we are on Big Island, have a 4WD as well, so no repeats and no surprises out on some lava road.

I got a solution for water spots that works really well, speaking from experience. Its in the garage and I cant remember the name.. ill have to find the bottle and let you know what it is.

Haha, yea I guess I could say I understand coming from a 2wd as well. It definitely gets stuck faster than anything in sand, but after putting in an LSD I was able to road it almost anywhere (other than sand) and not get stuck. Then again I chose my lines wisely and was not able to do anything to critical, but for a stock 4runner 2wd on a limited/locked rear, I was amazed.
 
The guy at O'Reilly auto part recommended this acid based water spot removal. Apply then quickly rinse off. He said it works wonders he used to use it at a dealership he worked for.

Found it. It may seem pretty "generic" looking, but it worked wonders on my car. We picked it up at a local car show. I wouldn't be surprised if you can find it online/locally elsewhere.

Late re-reading this, dunno if you ever pulled the DTC codes to see what the issue might be.

My wife's 2001 SR5 started with the TRAC and VSC lights a few years ago. Do not recall exactly how I got there, but the codes I found were not related to those systems. Reading up on the issue led to one of the O2 sensors being bad.

Bigger than heck, replaced it with one from Amazon, and all was well.

Pull the codes and do a search for that, might be the same thing. Was not a hard thing to pull the old sensor and screw the new one in.
