Yeah, there seems to be a lifted Toyota truck in every other driveway on Maui. Must be why I wanted one so bad growing up. Imagine the shame I felt as a kid when my dad bought an Isuzu pickup instead!
 
I grew up in Hawaii, I was the kid with an Isuzu trooper when every one else had a Tacoma on a 9" lift. I tried to off road that trooper so many times in vain just to get it high centered in the lava or stuck in wiopio valley. Damn I miss home.
 
yeah when i visited my fried on kauai it was insane how many lifted toyotas and other lifted vehicles u saw.
 
Volcano is a good 1- 1 1/2 hour drive from Hilo and there's a lot to see there. Hilo doesn't have a whole lot going on ( I used to live there) Kona is a LOT better. What the Hilo side does have is an area called Kalapana (south on the way to Volcano but a little detour towards the water) which is incredible; there's a road that winds through the jungle and takes you to a natural hot spring on the ocean. On the way to the hot springs is the "lava tree park" where an old lava flow made its way to the jungle and up into hollow trees; after the trees burned up there were these pinnacles of lava rock left. Local food is good in Hilo, gotta find the hot malasada stand under the banyan tree on Kilauea st...I think, its been a while. A malasada is a kind of Portuguese warm donut, bad for you but stupid good. Hilo is incredibly wet, bring an umbrella.

I agree. Volcano is an awesome place to go. I go there once or twice every year and stay over at the military camp.

It depends what you like to do. I guess if you like shopping Hilo is somewhat better than Kona, since Hilo has the Prince Kuhio Plaza. Hilo is kinda more of a laid back town now, IMO. Kona would be more fun, since it has a combination of shops, activities, and some nice scenery. But to see the beauty of Hawaii, you need to visit places like Waimea (where I'm from) or other places off of the beaten path.
 
We're going to head to the rainforest zoo, then the ship goes to kona Wednesday. Did the volcano park 5 yrs ago on honeymoon, this time have to entertain a 14 month old!
 
I will always regret for not taking my best friends invitation to go to Hawaii for a vacation and to visit her...I just had to pay for my ticket. How nice was that!!
She was living with her family in Hawaii for about 5 years and invited me every year but I always ended up somewhere else for my vacation thinking "I will go next year". Now she is living in Texas.:ybrick:
She misses Hawaii so much. And I dont blame her.

doh why would u not take her up on that? as soon as i had the vacation time i went out to hawaii for two weeks to see my friend. It was awesome to say the least.
 
hahah nice, yeah hawaii is the place for 4runners. almost every block there is at least 1.
hahaha but its great..
one junk thing is for some reason we dont even have a club. we have so many 4runners and i have yet to try find a club for t4rs or at least to have some cruises haha
if anyone in hawaii in this thread wants to start or knows of a t4r club down here let me know.
