Just got back from an awesome trip through Big Bend National Park with [MENTION=52337]Cody.[/MENTION]htx [MENTION=109179]TX4runr[/MENTION] and some other friends. 200 miles of off-road trails and camping on the Rio Grande.

I only have the TRD front skid and was totally fine. We did basically every trail in the park and I only got one little tag on the gas skid. I would recommend camping along river road if possible. Loop Camp or pretty much any spot off of river road are amazing. Do Old Ore Road, Black Gap, and River road for sure. I hear the state park has wayyyy more trails too.

What did you do for extra fuel and water while in the park? I'm probably going to be heading out there sometime before December in a stock Trail so I'm trying to figure how I'm going to carry enough fuel and water while driving/camping.

There are actually gas stations and water fill spots throughout the park. You can get water at any visitor center and gas at Panther junction and Rio Grande Village.

I was looking at some of the photos on IG of your trip. Looks like it was awesome! If you guys don't mind another bum on the trail, let me know next time you guys go out. I would love to join you guys. I haven't been out there yet.

Swapped the wilco hitchgate solo for the solo hi-clearance!

Getting very close to pulling the trigger on the solo hc! A few questions, how is visibility while driving? Does it obstruct your view quite a bit when looking in the rear view/checking behind?

Also, did you purchase a rear camera relocate kit? If not, do you even miss not having a backup camera?

It is noticeably different with the high clearance, but both block most of your view from and camera and the window... I took mine off for daily driving and will put it on for trips. It's not worth the headache for daily city use.

I'm considering a Solo HC for my 1 month old 2018 TRD ORP, since my aftermarket tires/wheels don't fit in the spare space; was that the reason you got a Solo in the first place?

Not terribly concerned about rear visibility. My problem is I don't have a garage (carport in condo complex) so I don't have an easy place to store it if I take it off. What's your plan if you ever get a flat during city use?

Finally, I don't see the license plate light accessory on yours. Did you not get it since you only plan on using the Solo for off-roading, or does Texas not even require one?

I got it to get the spare out from under my truck for use offroad. It's tough to get a spare out from under the truck when you may be on a rocky/uneven trail. My 285 Ko2 spare DOES fit under the truck. I bought the license plate light but never installed it because it was a pain in the ass. I hate electronic work.

I appreciate the offer and might take you up on that! Not sure if I will make it this weekend but next weekend I was planning on going out there with the FarOutdoors crew to camp a night.

Yeah, I was talking with Matt from FarOutdoors. He said they are going to leave the meet this Saturday (17th) and head to Hidden Falls, but they have a large group planning to go on the 24th to go camping. I hope I get to see you out there.

We may join on the 24th for some wheeling... Plans are changing daily... :shrug:
