HayRunner's Build Thread

This love affair began on a foggy morning in late October. I convinced my girlfriend to wake up early and drive with me to check it out and drive it back for me. It was love at first sight. She is a 96 SR5 that had 279,000 on her and I got her for 2600.

Here she is the day I got her.

And here she is right now

She was a little rough. She had a cracked wind shield, was missing the passenger side mirror, and the rotors were warpped. But she was exactly what I wanted something to fix up and learn to work on. Unfortunately I had to go out of town for work for 3 weeks the week so I had to wait a while to start working on her. However, while I was gone I discovered T4R and the list of things I wanted to do to my 4Runner grew like crazy.

While I was gone I decided the passenger side mirror was the first thing I needed to fix so I picked one up for $40 on amazon. Originally the crack in the windshield was small so I was gonna let it be but it started to grow so I got it replaced.

I also bought calipers, rotors and pads so I could do the Tundra brake upgrade. I instantly regretted buying a 4Runner from the coast. Everything was seized up and a giant pain to remove. I finally got it brakes swapped and it was totally worth it! She brakes so much better now and the vibration while braking is gone. I also put in a K&N air filter and removed the running boards too.

I put about 1000 miles on her and decided the suspension is shot and started looking at lifts on here. After reading who knows how many threads (The amount of knowledge on this site is crazy) I decided to go with Tundra 5100s front and rear, toytec/eibach springs up front and OME 891s in the rear.

They love that I decided to put a new lift on and have been getting new boxes almost daily

Still waiting on my toytec/eibach springs and the bushings for my shocks to come in. In the mean time I'm rebuilding the front end. New UBJ, LBJ, ITRE, OTRE, and new steering rack bushings. Yet again though everything is seized up. PB Blaster, butane torch and breaker bar here I come.

We also got some rain this weekend and I found out that my sunroof is leaking. I'm hoping it's just a clogged drain tube since it's only leaking on the front passenger side.
