Head Gaskets, which means the whole top mess

So, finally getting back to my head gasket repair on my 1992 3.0. I've got everything apart, and the heads are on their way to the machine shop. But I'm looking at saving money where I can... I used to work at Napa, and sold Fel-Pro gaskets pretty exclusively. But I've been looking on Amazon, and there are other brands that have really good ratings from users on there, at about half the price of Fel-Pro.

Any opinions? (I'm sure there are... let's hear them!)

I already know Fel-Pro are great sets. I'm just not sure I want to spend the extra 50-75 dollars if I can achieve the same seal with an imported set or unknown name.

I'm also looking at the same thing in regards to importing OEM named timing kits vs. Gates/Napa. I'm very aware of the OEM names (Napa has a line called Altrom, that is all OEM asian branded parts, and some of those are available on Ebay or Amazon at significant savings.)

IMHO never ever skimp on gaskets. Using a lower quality gasket is fine if you dont mind doing the job again prematurely (especially something as labor intensive as a HG). I feel the extra money spent for oem gaskets is money well spent

I think I'm falling in love with RockAuto.com. And I used to hate them soooo much when I ran the store for Napa. Now I'm on the right side of that argument!

Even being a government employee, I can save over $35 on the water pump/timing component kit, with the exact same part made by Gates. Plus shipping, so a little less, but still a save.

Here we go... time to get this little ride back together...

For the timing kit i highly suggest looking up engnbuilder.com . Most likely more expensive but great customer service and good quality parts

I was recommended the DNJ gaskets by ENGNBLDR so that's what I went with. Seems like he knows what he's talking about. 0.o

DNJ it is. I thought I scored an awesome deal on the FelPro set, but I got an email this morning that they're out of stock. Figures the deal was too good to be true Oh well, the DNJ gasket kit will be here Friday!
