Headed west on vacation

The family and I are headed west on vacation starting friday. The kids wanna see the Rockies. I've been to the Rocky Mt Nat Park before and really enjoyed the altitude. What I'm lookin for is maybe a small outta the way town near the RMNP that might have a motel/hotel where we can hang around the area a few days.
Any kinda advice or ideas...places to eat, places to see, would be awesome.

Wish I was drivin my 4Runner but I need to save on gas. Will be in a Saturn Vue :barf: but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
