Headgasket should I be concerned ?

I have 372,000 kms now on my 97' v6 3.4l it's running awesome, one or two people have asked if the head gasket has been done ? Not that I know of, previous owner said nothing i have driven 20,000km in it so should i be worried with this mileage ?

I wouldn't be.

Now if the timing belt hasn't been done... I may be worried about that. But not TOO worried as it's not catastrophic if it does fail.

When I get a new car one of the first thing I do is check compression/leakdown.. While im changing plugs and wires. If you are that concern there are way to check. I would say you are fine though.

The 3.0's of the previous generation had head gasket problems all the time. Perhaps they were thinking of that. If it ain't broke, don't fix it in this case.

The 3.4L in many peoples opinion didn't have much better of a head gasket design. That said, In all my years of wrenching on the Toyota's. The ONLY truck engine I know that had an unprovoked head gasket issue was the 3.0L engine. Not to mention the well known "rod throwing" problems it was also plagued with.

To be honest, I think most people just assumed it to be a "Toyota V6" problem. Now as a common guide line, I recommend that all folks who do their timing belt, to do so as a full kit, and also add a new thermostat.

Well thanks for the replies, I feel somewhat easier ! My local mechanic who has done all the work on myT4R was one of the one enquiring. When I first got the truck first thing I did was timing belt and water pump, plugs leads fluid changes LBJ's etc etc.... 400,000 km here we come.
They had me worried as I have spent enough already, wasn't looking to have to get a HG done also !!! The guy is a Chevy driver anyway, what does he know LOL.
