OP, if you're not familiar with this resource, it's the best compendium of Colorado trails out there.

Meh....Colorado is turning into California-Lite. Won't be long before you can't wheel or own guns without massive restrictions. Heck, that's already starting.

Some possibilities that aren't too far from the Pikes Peak area (which are described on TrailDamage.com) are:
Goose Creek Road - This is an easy road, but there are several roads branching off of it which may give you more of a challenge. Friends of ours were in the area last weekend climbing surrounding peaks, and told me that there was very little snow there. It's in a burn area, but it's still quite a beautiful place. The Gobbler's pictures here will give you an idea of what the area looks like. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/57313-5th-gen-toyota-4runner-picture-gallery-446.html#post2625180
Metberry Gulch and Hackett Gulch - Near the Goose Creek area, but much tougher. I haven't heard anything recently about conditions there.
Cedar Mountain Road - Also in the same area. Easy.
China Wall - Further from the Pikes Peak area, but easy to get to via Highway 24 and Tarryall Road (Park County 77). Should be nearly snow free. I don't know if it's subject to a seasonal closure, however.
Have fun!
Are you going through Midland-Odessa Area?

Really, we have so many trails you could not run them all in a lifetime. THey get closed due to gun toting fools shooting up the entire forest, trashing everything, accidentally shooting each other and going off trail. Im glad they close them when that happens.
