Headlight bulb & aiming advice

Fellows,

Going on a roadtrip in a couple of weeks and want to "upgrade" the headlight bulbs. OEM bulb in there now, on a '97.

What's the best bulb to replace it, with either a whiter light or possibly more watts (compatible with the electric system and DOT regs)?

Also, anyone have a good technique for aiming the headlights?

Use the Silverstar Bulbs. Whiter and brighter, it produces a clearer light of the standard yellowish tint. You can pick them up at any auto store and also should be able to get them at walmart.

I'm a big fan of the Piaa's. I've had both silverstars and Piaa's for side-by-side comparo, and still favor the Piaa's. They are more whitish/slight blue than the silverstars.

Don't get me wrong, anything is still better than stock.

Thanks guys for the info. I'll look at both the silverstar and the PIAA's.

My Haynes manual recommends having a "qualified shop" do the headlight aiming. Is this necessary, or do you guys turn the screws yourself?

Watch out how powerfull you go, we had a little honda come in the shop with aftermarket headlights, and they had melted the plastic........probably nothing to worry about on a good ole yota but just thought id mention it, and im not sure what kind they were sorry

Yea, I have the stock wattage replacements, I'm not taking any chances.

ive changed my bulbs 3 times and have never worried about aiming. i just open the hood, release the metal latch, unplug the bulb, put the new bulb in, reattach the metal latch then plug in the new bulb.

i currently have silverstars and they are by far the brightest ive used.
