Headlight filler panel mounting clip

It'll probably be obvious when I'm putting everything together, but does anyone have a picture of how the headlight filler retaining clips that hold the side of the little filler panels mount to the truck? I have new clips for both sides, but I'm not clear on how they're mounted. The pics below show the clip and the location for the drivers side. Thanks in advance.

Here's the passenger side of my parts rig. The drivers side also clips from top so they are different I guess. There's a little sticky tape thing behind the insert. Hope this helps.

The set I recently got from the dealer had lost their stickiness so I used some silicone to attach them.

I'll probably use some kind of adhesive also.

How do you manage to undo that clip on the filler panel side without breaking the whole thing? I took off my passenger side front body panel this past week, and that was the only thing that I really struggled with.
