Headlight out New Silverstars in

Well one of my headlights went out so I replaced them with new Silverstar bulbs what a difference over the stock bulbs.

Install was a bit of a PITA but worth it and a must do in my case.

Our stock lighting sux's so if you want a better lighting they are a good choice.

Silverstar # 9004ST

Very Good Improvement, that was the first thing that i did to my 4Runner when I got it. I agree, Install was a little bit of a pain.
 
I'll have to do that. I loved them in my Jetta, just haven't done the 'Runner yet. Wish there was a replacement setup where I could swap the stock light for a lens assy with a single replaceable bulb (like my Jetta had, where you don't replace the whole dang thing, just the bulb inside the light).
 
Thats kinda funny, i had a Jetta before my 4 Runner, that i had silverstars in. Man I Miss that Jetta, miss the speed.
 
(not wanting to change the topic, but...) My Jetta was an '88...yeah, fast indeed. Whatta blast. Interesting, it seems the same folks who like VW's often like Toyotas too. Subaru seems to fit in there somewhere too.

I added driving lights to my T4R, they help a lot! I should look at fitting those bulbs into there as well... (wife is gonna kill me for this, but I think I am gonna try it!)
 
I had a 86 VW GTI and loved it, hated to get rid of it.

"Wife's going to kill me" I say the same thing all the time when it comes to cars/trucks.

Just find something she dumps money into like clothes, shoes, Longaberger baskets(like my wife) and bring that up when she starts up.Works for me:D
 
thats soo wierd, I have a 03 Jetta, Im selling it because of the 4 runner.
I will miss the MPG and the 1.8T with the chip!!!

That is so strange, mine was an 86 Jetta, they were a blast. Can still remember watching the Kidney Foundation coming and getting mine, Very sad day.:(

What is even more strange is that we both got red 4 Runners

Mike, I looked them up on the Sylvania site and they list them as 9004ST not 9400ST for my 95. Am I making an error? BTW, as soon as the weather warms up, I am going to put on the Hellas also.

The install is easy it is just getting to the bulbs thats the PITA.

You have to take the front of the truck off/grill, bumper to get to the headlights to remove the bulbs or I guess you could take the battery out on the passenger side and te air intake off the drivers side to get to them. seemed like less work to take the grill off for me.

They do make a huge difference over stock so it is worth it.

Where did everyone get there silverstar bulbs at? I've been looking around and found some on ebay for like $18.95 but with 5.00 shipping charge.

Okay, now I'm worried. I did locate them at my local VIP Auto Parts store. VIP has a policy of free installation when you buy them. I called and told them what I have for a vehicle and they told me they have them in stock and with no appointment needed, I just go to the "Express" lane of their work bays and they will install them for free.

So, now I am concerned that once I get there and they realize what is involved in the installation they will tell me they cannot do it. Does anybody else think I am correct or have any personal experience with VIP doing this for them.

Mike, I know you are familiar with taking all that stuff off because you did it to install the Hellas. How long did it take you to install the Silverstars?

My reason for asking is, perhaps VIP does these so often that for them it's no big deal.
 
If they offer free installation, they should have to honor it. If they dont, there is a step by step process in your owners manual with pictures and everything. It is a pain, but it is not hard. It only takes about 30 minutes if you do it yourself, since they have probably done it before it shouldnt take them that long. I didnt take anything off except the grill, then there are bolts that you can take out and drop the whole headlight assembly in your hand for easy acess, you dont have to remove anything except the grill. just look in your owners manual

I got mine in finally! Found them on sale at Wallyworld of all places, so I snagged them.

PITA install? ... not bad INHO...unless some dumbash mounts driving lights one the front bumb, right in front of the grill!!!

Not driven it in the dark yet, but they look better than the old yellowed ones!

It's just a bunch of little clips that have to be removed to get the grill off then some IIRC 10MM bolts to get the headlights out/I had to take my sidemarker lights off(2 screws) to get to one of the headlight bolts, I guess taking the bumper off is not needed but made it easier to get to everything.

It's not hard to do the install but it is also not like you pop the hood unplug the old ones and put the new ones in like in some newer cars/trucks.
