Headlight Question

Hey everyone I had some questions about headlights on my 07. I'm moving back up north in a couple months and a major issue I had last time I was there was how dim my headlights were. The town I live in there has no street lights and loads of elk and moose constantly on the highways and I want to get some bright headlights. I have been reading threads on HID's and I still don't understand if need just bulbs or if I have to get new housings or what not? I hate to ask what's the best option for what I need since it will come down to a bunch of opinions so if anyone can give me a couple good options I would really appreciate it.

The 03-05 has a reflector housing for the low beam, this requires the retrofit of a projector lamp housing.

The 06-09 has a halogen projector housing for the low beam, you can install an HID kit with only minor modification. do a search for "Squirrel Finder" or "Squirrel Spotter".

(Note: it wont be as effective as a projector housing DESIGNED for hid, but its cheaper, and is VERY functional.)

Edit*

As for a recommendation, get Morrimoto's from http://www.theretrofitsource.com/, 4300-5000k 35W.

you can also do the fog lights, they are reflector housings, but as they are low on the truck, if you aim them down a bit you can get away with it.

Another option is to install H9 halogen bulbs. They are almost double the lumens (light output) of the factory H11s and fit with minor trimming to the bulb base.

If your headlights are not yellowed/fogged over and are nice and clear, just get an HID KIT. You already have the factory projectors and are fine for HID light (sort of :spy: ). For OEM light (most lumens), get 4300 or 5000K bulb. Make sure they come with a ballast (waterproof) and wiring harness. Best hardware you get from the retrofitsource.com

Hardware:
Try Morimoto 3Five (35W), DS2 bulbs 4300K ($45 for both bulbs) with their Morimoto 3Five ballast ($110). Get the wiring harness (about $30). RetrofitSource is known for their customer service, and these components SHOULD be more than enough for your needs. Also, be sure to tell them (or whoever you go with) that you have an 07 4Runner and just want the low beams HID (unless you want HID highs, but that is a more complicated route).

Good luck, hope this helps! :yo:
