Headlight question

I sold my 2014 a few weeks ago and my 2018 hasnt arrived or I would just go look. I cant recall how the different bulbs in the headlight operate with regards to the switch.

If I recall there are 3 bulbs, the large light, the smaller one and the drl.

The DLR is only on in the day and turns off when you turn on the lights. Is the large on the low beam and the smaller the high?

Low beam headlight is an LED in a projector lens fixture. High beam is a halogen bulb in a reflector fixture. DRL is the same bulb as high beam (halogen) only dimmed. DRL is on when switch is in DRL position. Next position is headlight on - that turns off DRL and turns on the low beam headlight. The combination switch (headlight switch) pushed forward turns on brights in the headlight on position.

There are also fog lights. Those lights only run when the regular headlights are turned on. Off when brights are on.

FWIW - (if you're asking with the intent to swap bulbs) I have the XD HID lights - and I'm probably going to take them out. The projector cutoff is not very good for HID lights. So you either blind other drivers (total dick move) or you aim them low and get poor light down range. If I can't fix the cutoff issue - they're going away. I may retrofit them into the fog lights for offroad use only. Long story short - I would not buy HID conversion for the OEM lights. It doesn't work very well and you choose between poor road ilumination or blinding other drivers. If you want to be a dick - just drive around with your brights on. It's a lot cheaper.

Thanks for the reply. Reason for asking is the guy who bought it was asking if both the projector and the reflector (high and low come one together) If I recall they don't, ie. If the Low Beam is on (projector) the then the high beam if off (reflector) . If you turn the high beam on (reflector) the the low beam (projector) is off. Is that correct?

I didn't even answer the question.. lol.

Both stay on together when the high beam is selected.

No, they do not (I have an ‘18).
Just like all 2014+: halogen projector low, halogen reflector high, and DRLs that operate the high beam at reduced voltage/output.

To be clear; he's saying that when the HBs are on, the LBs are not?

If so, that's not as it should be. HBs turned on should illuminate all four headlights.

-Did you ask him to verify by looking from the front?
-Is it both R & L lights?
-Do the LBs work as they should?
-Did you make any electrical mods? ANY at all?

I'd make sure he knows what he's doing before assuming something wrong.

Yep. Definitely not an LED in the OEM projector. Not sure why I was thinking that. :doh:

Here's a pic of brights turned on. I removed my LED high bulbs because of the loss of DRL function. I'll probably put them back in once I sort out the alternative DRL function and then go back to halogens in the projectors for low beams. Trying to sort this out before I finally get some time to convert to auto headlights.

LB on: You can toggle HB on/off (flick switch up or down), no effect on LB
LB off: You can toggle HB on/off (flick switch up only), no effect on LB

He is sending me pics tonight, cause it made little sense to me.
I asked for a video
No electrical mods on that truck, although if there had been I do know what am doing in that regard. I honestly never paid any attention to what lights were on when, I turned them on and there was light and turned them off and there wasnt.
