Headlights are always on when driving

I noticed that my headlights are always on when the car is started regardless of time of day and when my headlights are switched to off. I don't have auto headlights. Is this normal functionality?

I have a 2002 limited 4wd on the bottom of the steering wheel there is a box. The box is marked (relay assy running light) there are to sets of numbers.
82810-04011
486811-10140.
This is the type of relay that i have. What i did was cut the black wire with the yellow stripe. This information is online somewhere, this actualy worked for me just remember to protect the wires that you spliced with electrical tape. Sorry that i can provide you with the website but for me this works, my daytime running lights don't come on.

thanks for that link....a question: if i don't care about putting in a switch to control the DRL's but just want them off permanently, can I just unplug the relay, or do I still need to cut the yellow-black wire, and re-ground the other wire into pin 2? This would be for a 2001. I wish ours was like the 2000 and just had some black box next to the battery.

I am not a mechanic and not a big fan of cutting wires.

i just cut the black wire with the yellow stripe. be carefull since there is a yellow wire with black stripe. i cut it back about two inches from the plug so i can reconnect it later if desired. works perfect.

jinxed13 is right just leave some lenght on wire that comes from the plug if later on you want to have drl's. You do not need a relay if you are never going to use it, just cut the black wire with yellow stripe and use electrical tape so it wont make contact with anything else.

thanks so much, i just completed the DRL disable mod....it was pretty easy. I feel so....empowered now. It's not an every day issue but there have been times I wanted to shut the lights with the car running and it was never possible with the DRL feature. I also feel like I made my 4runner more "old school" without that feature. Although, by now, our generation 4runner is becoming old school even without mods

So for my 2000 4runner, I don't have to do any wire cutting? Do I just unplug something?
