Headlights on...No Reminder?

Every since I can remember every vehicle I've had when every I turned off the car there would be a beep or or buzzing sound to remind you that your lights are on. I have just bought a 2006 4Runner and I always forget to turn them off at night but nothing reminds me that and I have to go back and turn them off. The dealership is sending me a manual but is there away to turn that on? Hate to come out the next morning and my battery is dead.

Also, is there a way when you turn on and off the alarm that just the lights come on and not the beep beep sound?

Thanks for any replies.

So pretty much flip them on and leave them there when you leave the vehicle and they will turn off in 45 seconds? So the system I guess sees that the vehicle is off and turns them off. So the next morning when you get in and turn on the SUV the lights will come back on and now you are running day lights. Just seems like a lot to remember but if that's the way they are then ok.

How about the beeping sound when you unlock and lock your truck?

I leave mine on pretty much all the time. Do you use the key fob to lock the car? If you hit the lock button twice as you walk away it will turn the lights off immediately.

What model do you have? The Limited has auto on and off, so the headlights will come on when it's dark enough and shut off during the day.

You'll need to visit the dealer to shut off the beep(s). Alternatively, you can disconnect the beeper. It's mounted on the driverside fender towards the back across from the master cyclinder.

The 4Runner is pretty much dummy proof. Even the dome lights turn off if they get left on accidently.

I wish my wife's Sienna was this smart. My daughter left a dome light on one night. I noticed it, still on, the next morning as I went out to get the paper.

Yup, my neighbor manages to leave theirs on all the time. We've told them a couple times, but stopped since they're always forgetful, leaving windows open, moonroofs and all.

Actually, the 4Runner cuts power to the interior lights after twenty minutes. Found this out when they shut down the highways due to road conditions, reached for the light and nothing.

When you leave your vehicle at night and lock it, hit the lock button a second time. It will turn off the lights for you (or wait 45 seconds and it will turn off automatically).
