headliner noise?

2016 4runner trail. Love the truck but I get this squeeky/sticky sound when I drive. It's not loud but just enough to annoy me. More dominant on the passenger side. Is this typical? If so, any fixes to it? I got my first service soon. It sounds like glue or rubber just slightly rubbing in the headliner area?

This is just me being picky. it's just a tad annoying when I don't have music on and hear this squeek sound while driving.

It doesn't match up exactly with you, but i spent loads of time chasing a squeak that sounded like it was coming from high up in the b-pillar that ended up being the factory roof rack cross bar that was a little loose

I don't think you're being picky. I just picked up a 2017 SR5 4Runner and after about the 5th day noticed a similar noise as you described above. A plastic/sticky type noise that occurs when going over bumps emanating from the headliner around where the dome light and sun-glass holder are located. With the radio off it got a bit annoying on my drives into and out of work yesterday. Today it wasn't doing it though? I have a feeling it will be an intermittent type noise that will eventually see me removing the headliner mounted console trying to track it down. Will update if and when I find anything out.
 
Same. Mainly passenger side. I can't figure out where it's coming from. Some days sounds low. Others high. Thought is was the outside lower corner plastic on the windshield, but I dunno. Annoying.
 
Upping this because this is *precisely* what I am dealing with and it’s driving me nuts.

2016 Trail Edition.
 
I'm noticing a similar headliner rattle above the driver side sunshade... it's driving me crazy. Is this something we should be bringing to the dealership to diagnose?

The joy of driving my 4runner is gone with this rattle, hopefully I can figure it out.

Try pushing up gently on the headliner. It has various places that are held on by Velcro. On of them may have come undone. Do not push so hard that you damage the headliner. One of mine was loose causing a noise over big bumps.
Also on the A pillars the plastic trim was slightly loose. I slide small pieces of Velcro (not the hook part) or foam rubber in the seams to tighten it up.
 
No, this is something different entirely. It seems *loud* at times, but has been incredibly inconsistent. Some days its there, other days, it is almost silent.
 
Most noises I have had in many cars over the years was caused by something I did. It also is hard sometimes to pinpoint where the noise is. I was sure it was in one area but turned out to be a different location. The first thing to do is to remove all the crap in the glove box, counsel, under the seats, door panel cubby holes etc and see if you still have the noise. Many times it is just something rattling around. I have also had my wife drive while I set in the back seat to try to find a rattle. Have you added any wiring or removed any interior panels etc.? If so make sure everything is put back together securely. I go around and lightly tap areas with my hand to see if I can reproduce the noise. I like using the non hook side of stick on Velcro to put behind plastic panels to eliminate to hard surfaces hitting each other. I also shove foam rubber into nooks and crannies to reduce noise and rattles. Also use tie wraps to secure loose wires.
 
Seems like I have a similar problem. Noise coming from passenger side dash/pillar area, hard to pinpoint. The dealer has removed the dash twice now trying to fix it, to no avail. Loud plastic-y noise, intermittent.
 
I have a similar noise. It is coming from the drivers side headliner just above the door opening. It is a crunching sound like a plastic bag. I think its the airbag or related parts moving around. It has been there since new (I have a 2014 w/45K miles). It is more predominant when its cold out. I didnt notice it all summer but know that it has cooled off again here in MN, the noise is back. I'm suspecting a plastic clip or tie possibly has come loose.
 
Have you guys adjusted your crossbars yet like I suggested? That fixed it for me

My 17 started doing this as soon as it got cold. I also had this issue on my Lexus IS300 when it was about 6 months old, Lexus looked at it and found the cable for the antenna was actually coming in contact with the roof, secured it and the car remained silent for the 8 years I owned it. This thing has a lot of squeaks and rattles now that it is getting colder out. I do have noises from my passenger door and dash, but those occurred after I had installed the plug and play focal speakers, so probably an error on my part. My Infinti G37 remained completely silent for the 83k miles I owned it for, with the exception of a center console squeak that was fixed by the dealer and never returned.

I guess it doesn't bother me as much with the 4runner since I don't see it as a luxury car and I am not impressed with Toyota service enough to let them try and resolve the issues.
