Headrest Screens + PS2 anyone?

Hello all again....I actually used the search button this time and found some stuff, but not what I was looking for. So here is my question.

I was planning on getting some Visualogic headrest screens, and partner it with my PS2 hidden underneath my pass seat. Does anyone have anything similar to this? and how hard would it be to install on my own? Without jacking up the interior of my truck.
How is it when you are driving and a game is being played on the PS2, or a DVD? Thanks (Pics would be great if you have any)

I had a PS2 in my BMW that I ran to 2 5.8" audiovox headrest monitors and a 7 inch up front... and it wasn't bad. 2 player games suck but the good thing is you can use it as a DVD player as well. You'll need a power inverter, and thats really the only thing you'll need thats different from a typical install.

I've been searching for the picture I posted on the board a little over a year ago showing the PS2 under the pass seat and the two vizualogic screens. The screens have been a big disappointment because I have brought they back 3 times to have them fixed in 15 months. Luckily Vizualogic is in Corona so I just stopped in for repairs. Now they know me by name when I show up which is really sad. The PS2 works pretty good but it tends to freeze much more than the one at home specially on rough roads.

the ps2 freezes up because it isn't designed to go in a vehicle... there isn't any vibration sitting on the floor of a house in front of the tv. But anything you put in there like xbox, ps2, whatever... will tend to skip but it really isn't all that bad unless you hit a major bump. I never had a problem out of mine and mine was mounted in the glovebox.

man that sucks....now im kind of iffy(spelling?) with those visualogic screens. what are some of the problems that you have had with them?

my shop here in nc sells vizuallogic and generally speaking we haven't had many problems with them. They are actually very easy to work with as far as warrenty goes so even if you do happen to have a problem they'll take care of it and quite a few times they have overnighted us the new/repaired screens.

I'm looking at the vizualogic book now and they are showing 3 models for 03-04 4runners and offer 2 leather colors and 2 cloth colors. They offer the advantage which is available in a 7 and 9 inch monitor no dvd, A-1000 (7") with dvd built in and a A-2000 (9") with dvd built in...

Audiovox also has premade headrests for 03-07 availble only in leather.

And generally speaking, the screens that had problems where when they first released the monitors with the dvd player built in. They got too hot but now they have pretty much knocked it out.

Nice How much does your shop sell them for? I was looking for a pair of tan headrests with a 9 inch screen without a DVD player built in. Looking to hook it up to my PS2

I'm actually in the process of buying some aftermarket universal head rests with a 7 inch monitor in each one! I already installed a car DVD palyer under the driver seat, which sends video signal to a 7in monitor i fiberglassed in the front consol right in front f the cup holders. the audio of the DVD palyer feeds a Vais interface unit which then feeds into my Navigation unit. This way I can hear it through my stereo.

I'm planning on getting a pair of the headrest from e-bay ...i've seen them for rougly $400 fo rthe pair..this is one of the links I've come across

hmm i'm not so sure about all that... I realize you get stuff cheaper on ebay, but 7 inch headrests already in headrests for $400 is veeeery cheap. Normally headrests run $1800...I'd be a bit concerned at 400 even though they have been used to that does take away from some of the value.

Well i know cost on 7 inch monitors have dramatically dropped in price (i'm talking about raw monitors) I can pick up a raw 7 inch monitor for like $100, and i'm sure cost on them is even less! and I'm sure they import those headrests form some company in china for a rediculous low price! So when you put it all together...you can get it pretty cheap. Even Boss sells package headrests with monitors for about the smae price ($400 a pair)

the one issue though is they are not Crash certified like an OEM head rest.

yea and boss is about the same quality as Pyle. It's shitty. I'm just warning you that the picture clarity on these is going to suck and so is the overall quality. Prices of 7" has dropped. I worked at a shop where cost was around $290 for a 7" audiovox and IMO that wasn't a bad price for what it was, and the price dropped to around $200. $100 for any headrest screen is dirt cheap. From what I saw, the seller didn't even list the brand name. That should throw a red flag up.

You are prolly right about the quality of Boss....but in reality..I personlly am not 100% concerned about getting the greatest picture quality in a car...that's what a home if for. ust like with everything....you pretty much get what you pay for. If these work for a few years..and kept the kids or wife.. :bash: quiet during long trips..it more then paid for itself...and at $100 buck a pop for monitors...you could easily replace them after a few years...who knows the might even get cheaper at that point too, like DVD players did over the last 10 years. I remember when they cost like $1500 back in the day...now you can get a DVD palyer out of a crackerjack box :biggrin2:

If you have the ability or knowledge to cut in the screens yourself then you will save a lot of money. But screens in headrests for 400 is begging for trouble. If these lasted more than a year I'd be impressed. All mobile electronics fail at some point... even your high end companies have products that screw up. When you buy from these companies you are also buying a guarentee and a warranty... try sending those headrests back to that ebay seller even though he does mention something about repair...yea, right. Companies like audiovox, vizualogic, etc will help you out when you buy from them even if you are a month or so out of warranty. ebay doesn't.

Also lots of people don't know this, but with vizualogic and audiovox I know for sure offer a 3 year warranty if you install their product within around like 90 days of purchasing your vehicle.

Question then for you? Is there enought foam (room) to mount a 7 inch monitor in the OEM toyota head rest? I basically figured that if I bought the headrest and monitor, I wouldnt have to worry about cutting into my leather headrest. Have you done this before in toyota headrests? I dont want to cut into mine only to find out that toyota didnt put enough foam on the back side to compensate for the thickness of a monitor in there. I wouldnt mind spending $400 on just the monitors and doing it myself

I want to keep my factory headrests in tact. Thats why I want to get those headrest with the monitors included. I would be willing to pay 1500 for both headrests with the monitors included hopefully it will be less than that. Another queston, I you do get the headrest+monitors. where do you run the wires?

In all honesty i couldn't tell you whether you could do it or not... alot of it varies by the monitor used, how it mounts in the headrest etc...

But a typical headrest install involves tracing out the monitor frame into the headrest, then cutting from opposite corners to essentially cut an X into the headrest. after this you cut out a square foam from where you originally traced the monitor. Then you take the mounting cage for the monitor and place it into the headrest and using screws mount it to the posts, take the leather that wasn't cut out and wrap it into the cage and staple it in place. The monitor will pressure fit itself into the headrest nicely.

Ofcourse i didn't go over how to run the wire through the headrest, basically because thats very simple.

I felt like you did and therefore picked up the Vizualogic monitors for nearly 2K. However I found out very quickly that this approach did not guarantee long term reliability when after 3 months one of the monitors just gave me multicolored lines across the screen. So far simular things have happened to the other screen and the third time one of the screens just gave me a blue color each time you started the truck until you hit the side of the headrest. The one benefit is that Vizualogic stands behind their product and they will help you out as best they can. However having said that, it has taken a lot of my time each time there was an issue. Others might have had different experiences with their products and that is great news. I'm just letting you know what I've gone through and will likely still go through in the future.

The wires go down the posts then into the seat and out the bottom.

Pre-fab headrests with monitors in them haven't been around all that long. If you picked them up about 1 1/2 - 2 years ago, then I can see you having lots of problems esp if yours were the ones with the DVD player built it. Those are the ones that were getting so hot they would burn themselfs up. Within the past year I've done a number of pre-fab headrests, and the quality has risen and the number of defects has significantly decreased. And like you stated, vizualogic worked with you to get yours fixed 3 times now... think your ebay seller will do that?
