Headroom issues with sunroof?

I just brought home my new 4Runner last week. I absolutley love almost everything about it. However, I find that the headroom is a bit tight and I keep banging my head getting in and out.

I'm about 6'3", but find it to be much, much lower than any other SUV I've ever had.

Anyone else find this to be annoying? I know there's nothing I can do about it, but still would like to hear opinions....

I'm your height and experiencing the same problem. At night I leave the sunshade in the open position and that helps a bit... when open during the day it lets in too much light, but at night there's no problem.

You may want to make sure that you have the driver's seat adjusted to the lowest position possible. I have the SR5, and it has a lever that can be pumped up and down, which raises and lowers the seat bottom. It makes a pretty big difference. My wife drives with it raised up, so everytime before I drive the vehicle, I need to open the door and pump this handle about a dozen times to fully lower the seat bottom before I sit down.

I am not sure how it is with the power seats, but my guess is that they have this same ability to raise and lower the seat.

My wife does the same thing..I have a 4th Gen Limited, and everytime she drives it she raises the entire seat, and when I get in I cant straighten my head. But if you lower the seat height...you shouldn't have any issues...i'm 6'4 and i have the sunroof option

The headroom issue was the first thing I noticed when I test drove the 4R. However, after my first week of ownership, I was accustomed to it and it has not been a problem. I'm 6'1" and (like the others have said) adjust the seat to its lowest postion. It is different from other SUVs--you sit lower--kinda like driving a sports car

Yeah, I noticed the same when I got in my 3rd gen 4runner first time. Even the room space seemed for me smaller than in the other cars I've driven. I'm 6'2" and EVEN IN THE LOWER SEAT POSITION I almost touch the ceiling. But we can't do nothing with this and as we like our 4runners we'll suffer and continue driving.

I'm 6'4" and have a sunroof in my 2002. To get past it, I lean the seat back a bit. This does give me a bit longer of a reach for the shifter and wheel, but it's not bad.

And if I can see a bump in the road ahead, I know to duck a little before going over it

The headroom issue almost stopped me from buy my 4Runner. In fact, it did delay the decision almost a year.

I'm 6'1" and while I've never bumped my head on the roof, it is lower than many other SUV's in it's class.

Of course, I've found that on almost ALL SUV's I have to lower the seat to get comfortable, even the full sized ones.

It's a compromise and one I'm very happy with considering the other awesome features of the T4R.

6'1" and I have the moonroof. Hair occassionally grazes the headliner. Seat's in the lowest position and not reclined very much, haven't bumped my head yet.

Glad to hear I'm not the only tall guy with this issue. I have pumped the seat all the way down, reclined a bit, and just deal with it. I have to say, I'm in my second week of driving the new 4r and I'm getting used to it.

Also, glad I never sit in the back seat. With the moonroof it seems much lower in the back where the glass slides into the ceiling....

I'm 5' 11" and I hate the sunroof.

I have bad knees and if I lower the seat enough to not bang my head on the roof, my knees hurt on long trips because of the low seat height.

I bought the 4Runner because it's a real 4x4 instead of a car based model and love it's ability to go off road and how well it does in the snow. However, if I was able go get a "go back" I would special order mine without the sunroof and wait until it came in.

Moonroof


I am a hair under six feet tall, but don't have any complaints about the moonroof. It was one of those things that I did not originally want on my 4Runner, but am happy that I ended up getting one.

The only concern I have is that something inside the mechanism might break and it would cost mucho dinero to repair it. In this respect, I am glad that I leased my SR5 for three years - and that it will be under warranty as long as I have it (until January of 2008).

No trouble so far, though.

6'2" here, but most of it is in my legs. I have spiky hair, though, and I do occassionally graze my hair along the headliner.

I'm really not sure how low I have the seat, but I do keep it fairly upright. I haven't bumped my head or anything, but I can definitely tell the headroom is significantly lower than my old Tahoe. It's not really an issue for me, though, and I'm glad I got the moonroof.

6'4" here with no issues with the moonroof in my SE - unless I wear a big cowboy hat.

I noticed the same thing when I was looking for a new 4Runner last year. My choices were VERY limited since I wanted a Sport Edition with no sunroof, but with enough searching I was able to find one and I'm glad I did because I'm 6'4".

As stated, I'm 6'4" too, but I must be all leg, cuz my moonrof & I are just peachy!
