Headunit Music Title Display on Bluetooth

I have a 2018 TRDORP and while using the bluetooth audio portion of the headunit it does not display the songs that I'm playing 75% of the time. So I have to turn the screen on my phone to see what music is being played. Anyone else have this issue? Is it because I have a newer phone? I have a Google Pixel 2 XL. I mean I can accept that they put the top of the line touchscreen display from the 90s but I at least expect it to function correctly.

Is there a dealer update for the head unit to display what I'm playing on the screen? Am I the only one with this issue?

Its a joke that a 2018 40k+ vehicle comes with such a crap head unit...

Open developer options in your phone (settings -> system -> advanced -> developer options). Under networking, change the Bluetooth AVRCP version to 1.3. If developer options aren't enabled on your device, google how to enable them.

Hi Tcha1,

It's NOT just you that have a couple of issues with the Blue*Tooth system in the Gen-5 4Runner! Now, I'm using an ipod in my '12 LE, but if I use the BT feature to play music, the Touch-screen feature will not work AT ALL!

I've (literally) gotta pull over and manipulate the function of the ipod using it's touch-screen to choose/change the playlists; that didn't work for me... Now I only use the usb to engage the full function of the XM (non JBL) Head-unit!

~rig~ Cheers~!
