hearing bad things about pennzoil !

bought a 99 t4r about 4 months ago, it had 93k on it and i have been running penz 10 30 hm in it. i was researching motor oil the other day and a few guys were saying pennzoil has something in it that leads to a wax like build up in the engine over time. any of you guys ever heard of this or is it just a bunch of crap? sounds like i might need to get the pennz out of my 4r, who knows thnaks guys

I've heard rumors of parrafin being used in the base stock or something but I never used it so I never really cared;It's all M1 SYN or Castrol syntec that I've used for the last 15 years.

Quaker State had big issues with wax a longtime ago. The origin of the crude stock is generally the source. In the day Quaker State and PENNsoil were from, drum roll please, Pennsylvania!:twak:


The oil pumped from that part of the world had higher levels of wax than other oils. I don't know if what you're hearing is current and real or a re-hash of 20-25 year-old issues.

quaker state and penzoil are both garbage...why do you think they are both so cheap...switch to something else such as Mobil 1

That info is only about a half century out of date.

There's a guy on Bitog who buys oil strictly on price. He does a used oil analysis with every oil and gets excellent results with every brand and grade covering many vehicles and many hundreds of thousands of miles. Sometimes, by the way, he gets better UOAs from dino than synthetic. As far as Pennzoil specifically, he's gotten some of the very best UOAs with the standard yellow bottle Pennzoil Dino.
