HEAT....or lack thereof

between trying to learn Russian and entering the Special Operations community, only being married 4 months and various other distractions (as well as being a toyota noob),

there seems to be no heat (only tepid air) coming from the vents of my 86. i pulled the dash thinking that maybe a tube worked loose (and general curiosity) to find a highly clogged cabin filter of some sort...no dice.

the FSM that SV_dude hooked me up with last year has been a godsend, but i can find nothing as far as filter location or even existence. but moreover, maybe the lack of heat issue stems from a cooling system issue?

i simply do not have the time during the week. Cyrillics are a ***** :ybrick: any tips from some of youn's? temp sensor, stuck thermostat...? i'm looking to crack a six pack and forget about language as soon as i get home tomorrow and dive into troubleshooting the toy.

That's part of the HVAC system. The heater and A/C cores are in there.
Outside air runs thru there, and debris can clog the core up preventing proper air flow, so no/poor heat/ A/C.
But first you have to make sure you're getting coolant flow thru the core, it could be clogged.

open hood and in the middle of the fire wall at the top is a valve that allows the hot coolant to enter the heater core check to see if its moving with the lever if not just un hook the cable and push to one side and see if you have heat then

Any friend of SV is suspect, but I suppose you're ok. How's your coolant level, have you burped your radiator recently? That's how I know I've got a full radiator and no air bubbles after changing my fluid, I check to see if the heater works.

If I remember right from our conversation the other day, you have plenty of heat as far as water temp goes. You just aren't getting any real airflow coming from your vents.

Like I suggested before (not sure if you verified this or not), make sure that your blower motor is turning on and is blowing strong. Take the first section of ducting away from the blower motor and feel for strong air coming from it. If you don't have a good flow of air coming from it then I would verify that your fan speed switch is working. There are steps in the FSM to check that, or you can just listen for the fan to change speeds as you move the knob to adjust the fan speed. If you are getting good air flow out of the blower motor then check and double check your ducting for debris. If you're not getting good airflow then I would suspect a bad blower motor or fan speed relay.

as Iroke17 said....popped the cable back on & secured it. engine warm, still the same results.

now i reckon i should check the heater core & make sure i'm getting coolant flow through it. suggestions? pop the box i pointed at, find the core and see if coolant starts leaking?

It might not be allowing fluid threw. So there would be no heat to give

Ed, you are confusing me a little. Normally that's not hard to do so I may be getting this wrong. You are troubleshooting a lack of airflow, not heat, right?

Sorry for the delay, it's a total lack I heat & it's still f'n chilly down here at Bragg.
That piece the cable wasn't hooked upto won't budge. Put some wd on it since everything under the hood is covered in varying layers of mud/dirt....still wont budge. What is the damn part or #? Some sort of heater hose check valve or manual temp regulator?

Suggestions of places online to order a heater core or will one from orieillys or advance be just as good? I figure since the dash is out I might as well so I won't have to worry about it later down the line....it's an ARSOF 4 day weekend starting Friday so ill have the time to spare.

Russian is proving to be a real pain in the rear. If you already speak another language, you'll have a head start.

i spent today running errands and ended up finally copying 4crawler.com's one man hardtop removal system. camlocks are a win! took an hour. only PITA was making sure my holes were dead center of the studs. too easy and now i don't have to ask the old lady to help take it off. awesome.

bought some 2.25" clevis pins before we left tennessee (Christmas) and finally got around to doing wheeliepete's quick release door trick. almost done, last piece on the passenger side is being a b1tch. good video, too easy to do and well worth it.
