Heated/cooled seats

You can get a cloth to leather conversion done, and then while they have the seat uncovered they can install heated/cooled seats too and then put the leather seats on.

That's the way i would personally do it.

It might be worth noting that the seats aren't cooled, it's more air circulating, kinda like a ceiling fan does. (That's my understanding anyway)

My Limited and most vehicles simply have ventilated seats. No actual cold air comes through them.
Despite the air not being cold and just circulated it is nice kicking them on after leaving the gym.
Heated seats are still so much more worthwhile than ventilated though.

Isn't that how seat coolers work? Or am I mistaken and there is an actual air conditioned seat?

in the whole stable of Toyota/lexus vehicles, only the LS series has actual air conditioned seats. the rest are ventilated seats. if you look in the brochures in Toyota and Lexus vehicles it will actually say ventilated.

a/c seats incorporate an actual duct from the a/c unit to the seats, whereas vented seats just use a fan under the seat to move ambient air under the seat up thru the seat cushions.

this only applies to Toyota/Lexus, as I don't get into other makes and how they implement features.

I was under the impression that ventilated seats go hand in hand with leather seats, and if you aren't careful you can tear them, say a pen or a screwdriver in your pocket, which I have all the time.

Does the same apply to those Softex seats?

I take it you only need heated seats when you are up in the Sierra mountains, you don't need them at sea level in CA there, right?

I am sure you could tear them with something in your pocket. However, they are not perforated like the ventilated leather seats. How much more durable does that make them? I don't know. I have had no problems with mine yet.

Leather is my main priority. Heated/vented would just make sense to add if I'm gonna go through this. I just wish I could buy the whole seat and just drop it in but can't find Toyota seats anywhere.

Just search your area for upholstery shops that work with automotive stuff! I'm sure they'll be able to either do it or send you to someone who can.

And, FWIW, you need to have fully-perforated leather to make them work. This means that the softex will need to have, at the very least, the outer panel perforated or replaced with a similar material.

I love the ventilated seats in mine (who knew I ran hot) but the wife is not a fan at all (too cold )/my fathers car has AC seats and glad mine aren't AC too since it feels like Im wetting myself with them lol

If you can add ventilated seats - it's worth it in my op!
