heated seats prewired?

Does anyone know if he 4th Gens are prewired for heated seats? Is there any wiring from the fuse box under the hood to anywhere into the interior for the heated seat fuse....it sure would be nice to just tap the line (if it exists) and just add in the fuse for aftermarket seat heaters.

That's the thread that got me seriously thinking about the heated seats from Rostra. The pics and tips in that thread are a very good source of info. The Rostra instructions and all that have commented on there installs tap into the existing wiring and I was just wondering if there is a way to use the dedicated fuse for the OEM install in an aftermarket app....maybe I missed something in the 7 pages of the thread that already mention this.

Since I have a very early production model, the truck is missing some of the prewiring that later models have. I was not even aware that there is a dedicated circuit on the models that come with the seat heaters.

By the way, tapping into the existing circuits was easy and is working well.
 
Can anyone confirm that the SR5 and Sport Editions come prewired for the leather seats? I see a few unused harnesses when I pull of the center console cover but not sure what these are for.

Could anyone with the factory heated seat switches take a pic of how/what harness they are hooked up to? Preferably someone who has the port-installed leather seats with the OEM switches.

haha, don't get me wrong gshadow, I appreciated you taking the time to post in that thread. It's just that I was hoping someone would say "yeah, I have done that and here is what you need to know" as opposed to "try this and try that" :surfer:
 
Don't know for sure, but I do not believe the wiring is pre-installed on SR5's and Sport's. The last time I was in my console I did not remember seeing that many empty connectors in there. To verify the connectors you have, I would download the wiring schematic for the 03' from here http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/100275-service-manual-download-links.html Once downloaded go into the "Electrical Wiring Routing" folder then to "parts.pdf" and you can verify what connectors you have in yours and reference the diagram. Hope this helps!

Llol, i will not tell you to try this and that. what i will do is tell you how to wire it and its up to you to use my info :) its real easy to do. just tee off power from the cig lighter in center console.

i dont have to look at that to know that my sr5 didnt come pre wired. limited will since it will have butt warmers standard.
 
I just installed leather and seat heaters on my 2006 SR5 back in May and no, it was not pre-wired. My seat heaters came with nice switches that fit into the blank spots with some trimming and I wired them into the fuse panel.
 
I have a 2008 Sport Edition and as far as I can tell, it's completely prewired for heated seats. Since I couldn't find a factory solution that was cost effective, I went with aftermarket seat heaters and tapped into the factory seat heater wiring.

I can't find the thread for this, but on non-limited models, the IG relay in the fusebox is not installed. This means the seat heater circuit (among a few others I assume) are not live. The relay is pretty inexpensive and it just pops in like any other relay. This activates the seat heater circuit. I tapped into the wiring within the center console I forget which wire it was, but if you're good with electrical, it can be found with a decent amount of trial and error.

As for the factory solution, I'm always on the lookout for some Limited seats, but those are almost impossible to find before they are snatched up.
 
I'll add some information on this 7+ year old thread since you brought it up. I have a 2008 Sport Edition V8 and the wiring was present from the fuse box into the wiring terminals under the left foot on the driver's side. I can confirm there was no wire from there in and had to wire mine from that point to the seats.

There is no wire in the center console for heated seats. There are no connectors and it is not "pre-wired". You need to add the relay as you mentioned and fuse it.

In addition the OEM leather heated seats must use the multi-position OEM switches. You cannot use an on/off switch with factory seats since there is a small black box under each seat that controls the different heat levels.

Can you provide photos of the switches? Found a Limited center console and factory heated seat switches that I’d like to utilize, but if the switch fits into the blank with minimal effort and looks factory I’m open to options.

I did it on my 05 sr5. I ended up having to run new wires. There are a few extra wires where the heated seat controls would be on a limited, but I couldn't make sense of them. I ended up just getting 5th gen seats with 5th gen controls and doing all the wiring myself.
