Heated Seats - Tell me about em!

I put mine in last Summer and they were very comfy last Winter.
Took me about 2 or 3 hours to put them in, which is actually fairly easy as the instructions are pretty well written. As long as you are moderately handy it is not difficult. You have to unblot the seats, unzip the seat covers, put the heaters on, run the wires (getting them over the center console is the tough part), and splice them into the correct wire in the door sill on the driver's side.
Your ass and lower back will definitely appreciate the heaters. And I don't think that any installer is going to make them look any better than what you can do yourself.

I love them! Do I need them? No but I have them. They are great for cold winter mornings. I would leave them on when I turned off my 4runner so in the morning when I hit the auto-start the seats would be nice and cozy with the windows defrosted and ready to go. I had the dealer install mine, and the switch is kinda in a re****ed spot. I assumed the buttons would be in the center console, where the dummy caps are filling unused buttons. They put the switch on the lower door side of the seats, where you adjust seat positions.
Sorry I don't have much for install experience. I just thought I would share what I went through.

LOL. Heated seats in San Diego. That's funny.
As for the seat switches, Rostra makes a kit specifically for 4Runners that has 3-position switches. The switches look just like factory/OEM switches. My guess is that your dealer got ahold of the generic switches that are a little bigger than a dime and drilled into the plastic of the seat.
I am on vacation now so I don't have access to where I ordered them from. I just checked the Rostra site and found that they do not seem to make this kit anymore.....wonder if this is due to the 5th Generation coming out.

!!!!! I used to be stationed in Virginia, and I take my leave in Oregon, so there used to be a reason for the heated seats!
The best one I can think of now, is for the wife. She loves the heater on her lower back when we take turns driving up to Portland.
I couldn't resist busting you on that one. I like putting the heaters on and driving with the sunroof and rear hatch window open on a brisk Fall evening.
Of course in about a month the switch will be kept in the high mode for about 5 months. Everyone says it will be a "cold" winter. I am 35, and have yet to have a New England Winter that wasn't.
