Heater Cable Not Moving, No Heat!

Howdy all,

I have a 2000 4R Ltd. My climate control had been acting up for the past year but with enough patience I could get it to work. Recently I could not get it the heat to work not matter what. I used to be able to push buttons and eventually hear something move then heat.

Then no noise at all and no heat.

I finally replaced the CC and all the buttons seem to work BUT no heat.

The cable on the water control valve in the engine compartment does not change position when I switch from hot to cold. It seems relatively free, I can move it 1/4" and probably force it more but don't want to break anything.

I read about the heater servo going out but that was always associated with clicking noise. I have no noise when changing to heat or vise versa.

I don't think the servo is what moves the cable is it?

Any advice before I tear it more apart?

Don't know anything about LTD controls but could you disconnect the cable at the heater valve and put it in the open position?

If that worked it might give you heat until you figure out the control.

Got that worked out but would rather not have to pull over as temperature changes...

Its the actuator located under the glove compartment. Its tucked right up on the console down below the radio. It will have a white electrical plug, a white lever with a cable attached. This will need to be replaced. $160ish. Mines screwed up too. I opened the water valve all the way but I still don't have great heat because this is allowing cool air to blend with hot. It is most likely the control valve that is mounted against the firewall. They go bad, I just replaced mine. It wouldn't move. 30 minutes, $66 dollars, burp the system and add a little coolant.

Do check the actuator as well though. Mine was working.

every thing else works fine.

The control valve moves freely and I get good heat by hand moving it. The "flap" or what ever that separates AC from heat seems to be working; I can hear that move.

It's just the cable is not activated/moving.

I see a couple of units under the glove box so I need to find which is which. Looks like one a heater and the other AC by the diagrams I can find....???

Any one has photos of the actuator? Or diagrams?
