Heater swap

I have an '85 4runner with a terrible heater. It never gets more than just Luke-warm at best. Blower motor works well, flaps are opening and closing just fine.
I have available to me an '86 2wd Toyo pick-up. I won't be able to look at it til Sunday, but do you think they are identical heater units and that I can just swap them out?

If I were going to all the work to R+R the heater core, I'd put a new one in, not a 26 yr old used one.

But it's very likely the 2wd one would fit. Check with an auto parts store.

I was thinking the same thing, but my incurable case of "Cheapatosis" combined with a "Free" option, well I figured I would just throw the question out there.
It would be no fun to have it fail in a year after all the work. After all, I don't want to waste good Work-beer!!

Believe me, I know about about cheapatosis.
Several years ago the brake MC on my 84 went up. I replaced it with an old one I had from a 2WD truck I'd stripped. When that one gave out last summer, I actually broke down and bought a new one. But it's a lot easier to R+R a MC than a heater core (at least to me).

I have an '85 4Runner and I have done away with the heater in the center console for space reasons. I know from the parts guy that there is two cores available. There is the one I have for the 4Runner that has two heaters AND there is the one for the 4Runner that has only one heater and it is a bit bigger. Since I have done away with the rear heater I would like to replace the existing front heater with the larger one . . .
My question is are they interchangable ???
If not are there modifications I can make to be able to install the larger (WARMER!) one ?
