i am from hawaii and today it had very heavy rain. i was driving on the highway at about 50-55 when all of a sudden there was beeping and the back end started to slide the engine slowed down and then was able to resume driving. is this normal? is there a way to disable what ever that was?

Yep! VSC. Before I upgraded to the tires i have now i was running tires that were bald. I mean BALD!! On the way home one night I couldn't go above 40 because i was slipping so much. So, dont know if you need new tires, but that was your VSC kicking in because it felt you were about to hydroplane
That, and slowing the freek down.
You were hydroplaning and the ESC prevented you from spinning out.

I cant remember who typed this up before and I am probably quoting it wrong but I thought wow, that is so great and accurate:
Couple of beeps, little slippage - 4runner says, Hey there, its ok, i got your back
Few more beeps than before, little more noise from your baby - 4runner says, Hey there, slow down, I still got your back but hey there.
A lot of beeps, lot of noise, etc - 4runner says, Ahhh!!! We're gonna die!!!!
Anyway, it was something like that. Cant remember who thought it up but it was great and it has always stuck in my head when ever Rascal lets me know, hey now....

lol Uneek, I think the reason I remember it so well is because it was a husband explaining to his wife why the 4runner was beeping at her when she was out in the rain, or something like that... gotta find that post at some point...
