Heavy Throttle Power Loss????

I have noticed recently that my 4runner (97 SR5 4x4 v-6 5-spd) under heavy acceleration in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears is "lurching" a little. It seems that i am somehow losing some power when i gun it in those gears. It still accelerates and gains RPMs, but i am worried. my first response is to clean the injectors and replace the plugs/wires, but i thought i would let you guys take a crack at it first. any help is appreciated.

Something is stopping you up. It could be an air filter, a fuel filter, injectors, even a plugged cat converter.

I just went through something similar on my 00 Limited Auto. I changed 02 sensor, ECT sensor, air filter, fuel filter, TPS, and cleaned the throttle body and MAF sensor, all to no avail. Finally took it to the dealer, had to change the MAF sensor. Mine would run fine under light load, but if I tried to pass or accelerate quickly from a stop, it would cut out entirely, sometimes backfire. Not sure if yours is doing the exact same thing or not, but that's what I went through with it.

thanks for getting back. it turned out to be spark plugs (got lucky that it was the 1st thing i changed). threw in 6 bosch platinum2 and it was good as new, changed it in the advanced auto part parking lot. MAF would been my next thing.... then fuel pump eeeech...
