Hella 500 Install Issues

I am installing Hella 500s with a switch on my 2007 4Runner. I've never had issues doing this in the past. I have the relay, switch, and lights wired properly. I was using the bulb connection for the headlight as a temporary remote power source just to make sure everything would work. I have not blown any fuses. The only thing that I am doing that I could see as an issue is my ground wires. I have my Hellas, switch, and relay, all grounded to the negative battery terminal ground on the frame. Are there any other issues that I could be missing? The small LED even comes on on the switch, but there is no light from the Hellas. I have plenty sufficient wire as well. Thank you in advance.

What about the positive connections? Are they connected to the battery as well?

(assuming you're only using the headlight connection for input to the relay)

If you have it wired to your headlamps that may be the problem.

Most things on the 4runner are actuated by completing the ground instead of the positive.. Kinda backwards.

I know the interior lights are that way and I believe the headlights are too.

I think most people who want the aux lights on with highs have to wire in an extra relay to actuate the positive on the aux lights when the negative on the headlights is completed. If you search around you should be able to find a better answer.

The lead from the lights is connected to the relay and the relay is connected to the battery via 87 and 30 respectively. I also tried using the cigarette lighter as a remote power supply. That did not work either. Can you blow a relay? Is there a chance with the trial and error, or error in my case, that I have blown my relay?

Can you hear the relay click when you send power to it? Try bypassing the relay by connecting 87 and 30.

I bypassed the relay and connected 87 and 30. Let there be light. I still cannot figure why it is not working with the relay. Relay is grounded. Switch is grounded. The LED on the switch is coming on. I've tried connecting the switch to the cigarette lighter and to the headlamps. No luck.

Sounds like you have a bad relay. Did you place a fuse anywhere that could be blown?

Double check your connections on the relay - maybe reverse 85 and 86.
