hella 500 install

I just installed the hella 500's on my SR5

I was going to do the floating install like many others here have done but decided that this location was more around the height I was looking for. I ended up just wiring the switch to the 12 V adapter next to the shifter and have ordered the 04 tacoma switch (will swap hella for that when it arrives)

Looking good dude!

Just a word of advice, if you get your truck safety inspected in VA, put the light covers back on. If the truck comes in without the covers (like in your pic), they can fail you for having too many lights on the front of your truck. 2 low beams, two high beams, two factory fog lights and two hella 500s. You can only have 4 on at one time, that is why your fog lights turn off when your high beams turn on.

Oh I knew that I could only legally drive with 4 but didn't know I might fail inspection, thanks for the warning

I just need to aim them when it gets dark and i'll be good to go! I will post before and after pictures of those too for whoever is interested

I noticed that you have two small black boxes mounted to the grille guard just outboard of each Hella...are those low profile LED strobes? And if they are, how effective are they when your headlights are on? Friend of mine is looking to add a couple of strobes to his grille for road work when he doesn't have the cruiser.

Funny you ask if they are LED strobes... in a sense they are LED's that strobe however they aren't visible

they are blinder xtreme laser (lidar) jammers to block out police speed enforcement tools, they work wonders

I can't talk for VA, but in ON, you can have as many lights as you want, BUT only 4 switched on in a same time. To pass by inspection here you just do not have to switch all of them on. So based on that I'd suggest do not enter the inspection garage with ALL lights on and you should be Ok. I might be wrong, because I'm not living in VA.

I thought that VA police are notoriously strict on radar detectors and that they are against state law? Aren't jammers illegal in most states as well? I would love to mount those up somewhere on my truck. Is there a receiver hidden somehwere inside the cab?

laser jammers are illegal in some states, not most. radar detectors are illegal in VA however I just take a chance running them. I mount the radar detector very high on the windshield and have a concealed display down low that actually shines the LED so it's very hard to see.
