Hi,

I just wanted to introduced myself my name Truong Le, I just got a 1998 4runner, I has a good amount of rust on it, but I got it from my family for free so I can't complain. There is a few thing first on my list to do, like undercarriage rust removal, get a new hood, and some major cleaning of the engine. Any advise would be great, I'm in jersey so I want to get the undercarriage done before winter.

POR15 for the rust. welcome, certifit.com for the hood, it is the cheapest you can find.

As for cleaning the engine, depending how dirty it is, either spray some Simple Green or engine degreaser on a cool engine. Most people suggest covering the alternator (I don't bother and never had issues by not doing so) and fuse block. Check your master cylinder cap and reservoir for any cracks, you don't want to get water in there. Let the Simple Green or desgreaser sit for 5-10 minutes, don't let it dry on the engine though. Rinse off, you'll want to set your hose to a spray rather than jet or stream, so water is not forced into places that shouldn't be wet. Start the engine and drive around for about 10 minutes to heat up the engine and dry up the water.

Thanks for the replies definitely have to clean under the hood... I don't think it has been cleaned since it was bought.
