Hello fellow Toyota Junkies

I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I would do this in the Noob/Welcome area but I will only be spending my time here in 3rd Gen. I assume I have come to the right place. I have been a long time member of other forms such as Toyota Nation and YotaTech. Apparently the Nation doesnt have any activity on their 4runner forums so here I am. This appears to be the best forum for 4runners, but I could be wrong.

I have always owned and restored older FJ-40's and hilux's. I currently own a 1983 FJ-40 and a 1992 Hilux that I have owed since day one. I am looking forward to fully restoring that truck. I am waiting for the 22re to go so I can drop in a 2JZ-GTE. But of course the 22re will never die. I am always looking for a new project.

Which also brings me here. I believe I will be inheriting a 1999 sr5 4x4 runner with est 160k. My mother is the original owner and she no longer wants it. So she is trying to hand it over to me. Mechanically this thing is perfect. She would only have it serviced at her local Toyota dealership and she has full records of everything. Cosmetically its has a few little issues, but that is not a concern for me because I plan on changing out alot of stuff. The bumper is biggest issue, but that just gives me a reason to upgrade it.

I dont know much about 4runners so I will be relying upon yall for alot of info. My strong suit is hilux's. But I am super excited about finding this forum and I cant wait to start another build thread for yall.

I will post some pics when I have a chance, but it might be a few weeks. I will see the 4runner tomorrow, but it will be at night so I dont think the pics will be worth a damn. Then again I might take some so yall can see what I am dealing with.

The rear bumper just has some dents in it. Very easy fix so I am not worried. The interior might have a few issues, but I dont think that will be a problem either. I assume I can still get new interior parts from Toyota. I say I assume because I know I can for my 92 hilux.

I have so many questions I dont even know where to start. I have no experience with the 5VZ-FE. From what I have heard this is a good engine. Majority of my experience is with the 22re and 2F engines. I am curious to get your guys opinion on something.

Up to now this 4runner has had regular oil changes with conventional motor oil. Personally I am a big believer in synthetic motor oil. My 92 22re has had either Amsoil or Mobil 1 full synthetic since the first oil change. Almost 20 years later, hundreds of thousands of miles later, the internals almost look brand new. So this 4runner has around 160k. Do you guys think I should just stick with the conventional motor oil? Of course I will seafoam the hell out of the motor as soon as I get it. I just want to keep this runner running perfect because after hearing about my plans my wife now says she wants it, so this will be a DD for her and the kids.

first off...nice avatar...second off...congrats on finding this forum! you will definitely find a lot of information on here that you wish you never knew ($$$)

and regarding replacing interior parts, forget toyota dealership, check out junkyards man! I mean, unless you got a buddy in parts/service at toyota, you can always find what you are looking for at junkyards or Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market for cheap

Thanks SQ.MD! I have been reading your grille thread and dont hate me if I copy your idea. I freaking love that look! However I want to combine mine with a ARB Safari bumper.

I actually do have a few connects in various Toyota dealerships so I am not worried about the cost. To me I am a big believer in you get what you pay for. So if I want something to be perfect I dont mind paying for it. I cant wait to start to dig into this runner, but I may have to wait a little while first. :dammit:
