I have been a fan of Toyota's since 1998 when I bought a brand new Taco SR5. The next year my wife purchased a Rav 4. We were thrilled with both vehicles. Not a lick of trouble outside of normal maintenence. 150,000 mi on the Rav and 200,000 on the Tacoma. We lost the Rav4 about 5 years ago when a drunken (expletive) ran a red light and ripped the front off of the car. We got her a Matrix XRS, yes the six speed-ster, only to see it totaled in a confrontation with a deer this spring. My Taco got killed by another drunk driver the saturday before Thanksgiving and let me tell ya... The next drunk I encounter on the highway is gonna have more than a DUI to worry about. As for insurance companies... (foul language ensues when I hear mention of em.) My wife is happy with her new XR. She didn't really need that six speed. My son just purchased an 82 Tercel with only 112000 fully documented miles on it. The dam thing is cherry. Wish I woulda found it first.
I have recently purchased my first T4R. It took a week for the excitement to wear off when the critter began having problems. It's a 95, six banger, 135000 miles, clean and beautiful but decided that it didn't need to use overdrive anymore. We have been catching a break in the weather here in Carolina this week so I have been able to do some preliminary testing and the jury is still out. It passed the "unplug the transmission connector" test and shifted into OD on the highway but I still need to run the battery of tests on the computer and such. My fingers are crossed but however this turns out, this vehicle deserves to live. I have learned much on this forum and appreciate the advice and links that I have found here. I am sure that as I procede with this new hobby that I will have questions and look forward to exchanging thoughts and ideas with the membership here. Much thanks in advance and for what I have already learned.
As it stands the 95 has the OD problem, the idle is running high at about 1500, the engine seems fine but I am looking at headers and a Y pipe and it seems to take forever for the temperature gauge to move and I am beginning to suspect that the thermostat is missing. Hope it's not the head gasket. We'll see. More to come on this critter. Happy motoring.
