Hello from Nova Scotia

I'm going to be the new owner of a beautiful 2001 SR5. I want to keep it for a long time, and I figure this is the best place for advice and discussion on making that happen.

I bought a 2002 CR-V last year, and although I found it appealing at first, now I generally find it's a mutant car. Oh yeah, and I can't stand having a predecessor to the banana-windowed new-model CR-Vs.

Anyway, I'm a dirt road, secondary road, gravel road junky--I love my nature--and Nova Scotia winters can be quite sloppy. The truck-based 4Runner had been wooing me since last year. Plus, even paved roads here have some bone-jarring bumps, and the CR-V wasn't cutting it IMO. Don't know why people buy cars here.

If you were to live in Halifax it's quite nice. I'd guess Halifax is like a small Boston....

I'm in a small town, so, there're books to read, roads to drive on, and back roads to play on. Oh, and you're never more than an hour from a beach.

Halifax is great! Had a blast during a wedding weekend checking out the pubs and clubs, cruising the harbor and some gambling. Too bad the high speed catamaran no longer offers service, now it is a long drive through New Brunswick.

Here's my new baby, all cleaned from top to bottom, took about 10 hours to do it my way, finishing off with conditioning the leather and putting Febreze on the carpets. The previous owners were clean, but any dirt now is guaranteed to be mine.

Want to put new brakes on next summer, getting all the fluids and oils changed next week, and new spark plugs, and have to get the engine light codes read (I bought it knowing about the engine light and the fact that it has been checked out a few times and diagnosed as mysterious by a Toyota garage). The seller was open about the engine light and even chose not to reset it again just so he wasn't passing it on knowing it will turn on again a month after I buy it. Just want to get it in perfect shape to last at least five more years.
