Hello from Lehigh Valley, PA!

I may be joining the Toyota 4Runner 'family' soon. I have been looking at an '03 Limited with 73K.

I will do my due-diligence and 'Search' the forum for tips on what to look for when buying a pre-owned vehicle of this vintage, but any links that anyone knows of regarding this would be much appreciated!

If I purchase this vehicle, I look forward to digging into the great wealth knowledge available through the members of this site.

Best Regards,

Rob

Hello preacher and Kenworth,

Thank you for the welcome!

The '03 that I am looking at has the V6 engine. It is a two owner vehicle with a clean CarFax report. Its maintenance records reflect that regular maintenance was performed as well as some warranty work. According to CarFax, it was serviced at two Toyota dealers and a privateer.

It has thus far spent its life on Long Island, NY. Although the last owner was from Massapequa, NY, a town hit by Sandy, I was able to ascertain that the owners' home street was on 'high' ground and not flooded. I called a Toyota dealer that serviced the vehicle to get the street name and the local township to find out if that street was in the flood zone (pretty resourceful of me, eh?!).

The interior and exterior are very clean, although the wheels exhibit bubbling and flaking, which I understand is not uncommon of this year (and some others).

The vehicle is going to be delivered to my trusted mechanic tomorrow for a thorough inspection.

I can see that the outer body of the rear shocks are rusted, as well as the 'disk' on the right front tire assembly that sits inward of the brake components. The hitch was spray painted, to hide rust I assume, although rusty looking hitches are not rare.

He will check for frame rust as well a all major mechanical items. If he finds anything a major mechanical concern and/or rust that is unacceptable, the deal is off.

As for 'picking' this particular '03 - I was looking for a G4 that fit my desired financing objectives.

The selling price is ~$14.6K.

Best Regards,

Rob
