Hello to all & Amsoil Bypass Filter Kit question

Just wanted to say hi to the group (being a newbie 4runner owner and group member) and I really appreciate all the great sharing of knowledge of all things 4runner found here.

It was after reading everyone’s positive experiences with and love of 4runners on this forum that I finalized my decision to buy one. I must say after 4000 miles, it’s the best vehicle I have ever owned and I hope it lasts forever.

In that vein, I have run across the Amsoil bypass filter kit and I’m all set to buy/install one at my next oil chnage. Here is a link of a Tundra installation provided by someone else in the forum.

However, after a little research with a tape measure, I find that there doesn’t appear to be a location reasonably close to the current oil filter where I can install this without interfering with existing components. I have searched this forum and can't seem to find any reference to hands on experience with an installation on a 4runner.

Has anyone installed one of these kits on a 4th Gen V8 based 4runner? If so, where? Do you have pics? Any words of advice?

For those of you who saw my question on this in another semi-related thread, I apologize for the double post – just asking explicitly in it’s own thread for greater exposure.

I have looked and looked as well. All I can come up with as an alternative to the stock location is in front of the radiator. There are other single and twin filter kits that are smaller then the Amsoil kit. Since I am changing my oil every month, I am going to have to come-up with a better solution as well.

On the Amsoil note, I have been using the Series 2000 0-30 weight oil. Reading more, and considering price, I am going to switch to the Amsoil European Car 5-40 synthetic designed for extended drain intervals. Then continue to change the oil every 5000 miles. At least until I have exhausted the 100,000 mile warranty.

RL thanks for the response. I also looked at that radiator spot briefly, but decided I don't want to potentially see those filters from the front of my vehicle.

If it wasn't for that fluid line running right through the middle of the space next to the battery (as opposed to neatly tucked along the metal wall), that spot would be tight but probably would work.

At this point, I'd consider a single remotely mounted filter also. That would beat taking that skide plate off ever time (though it's not too bad).

If you come up w something that works, please post it.
