Hello all,
I know this should be in the new arrivals thread; this is more of a two part post saying hello, and a question.
I've been on these forums lurking around for a little while mostly using the search function to answer my questions, and only posting in things I knew I could talk about.
My name is Hans and I'm 24 years old, I'm a commercial fisherman (family business) based out of Cape May NJ. I lived a short stint working with the forest service in Alamogordo NM ont he Lincoln National forest (was a wildlife technician after college), and worked at a net building shop in Seattle WA (Ballard).
I bought a '14 super white TE 4runner back in May of 2014 trading my beloved Subaru Impreza outback sport. Decided I wanted a bigger vehicle; thought about the FJ but they announced they would discontinue them, I don't really like how I sit in a Tacoma, once I sat in the 4runner and drove it I was hooked; its been a love hate relationship since.
(second day of ownership)
I've decided to call her "Mobi" one because its a mobile :wtf: another because shes my great white whale...
As life generally does, with so much finesse, it smashed my short term dreams in the ground with Mobi. As a young man I had visions of the rigs I've seen on this/other forums, But saner minds prevail; I've student loans, truck payment, insurance, rent. With a monthly cushion that makes me comfortable, it leaves room for little else (plus gives me time to think on what I really want/need).
But lo, I've been able to save my pennies and I can think about a suspension upgrade. I've read posts/builds/comparisons on this forum till my eyes bled and I've come to the conclusion that functionality/reliability trumps expensive/awesome "eye candy".
Which leaves me with what I wish to achieve: I'd like around a 2" lift, simple, no spacers, a real suspension upgrade. I want to keep the rake that's in the truck. Unfortunately in my price range I can only find 3" lifts (OME, etc), unless I "Frankenstein" something together, which I may have.
Rear coils
Front Struts
Rear Shocks
Front Coils
From everything I've read about these items; I should maintain (most) of the rake, stiffen/upgrade the suspension, and maintain approximately a 2" lift.
Are my thoughts correct on this? I know OME makes a system but its a 3" lift; Do those front struts only work at 3"? or can I put coils on that are only 2" above stock?
Would it be better to keep the springs but go with This because those struts can be set at different lift levels?
Any help would be fantastic, and please, be a little descriptive in your responses; I'm young, new, but I'm willing to listen/learn.
With Regards,
- Hans (Acronym)
P.S. Here is some more pictures of my 4runner and such
Hammock set up in Washington County Maine
Somewhere western boarder of Baxter State Park Maine (still learning "posing shots")
Kayak fishing in a lite expedition kayak?
And here is a video (made it so family could see a little easier than me scrolling through all the photos).
