Hey Toyahaulics,

I recently sold my 1990 V6 speed 4Runner for less than a thousand bucks the guy who got it drove it a week and blew the head gasket, I guess I got very lucky. Id like to buy a new one and I'm in the middle of two currently. The two 4runners I'm looking at are both first gen.

.1) 1989 4Runner SR5 V6 3.Slow 5Speed. Silver, pretty clean re done body, used metal and floor is pretty clean as well. Price is $3,500 Negotiable. I'm interested in this truck but knowing its got 320,000 Km's its scary because the 3VZE has the head gasket issue. It has a towing package, stock suspension, the guy used it for towing a 25 foot boat etc... and is the second owner and has had it 8 years and is building a Land Cruiser. Tires are 31" BFG's with 70% life.

.2) 1987 4Runner 22RE 5 Speed, 124,000 K 2nd owner and hes a Door knob and a half. I was almost the second owner but this guy got to the truck before me. Price is still $2,500 although the guy has purchased a lot of parts from Arizona and he is currently looking for a new truck so I can buy this from him since he hates it.

The good:
It has a 6" Skyjacker lift.
New Polyurethane bushings in the front
33x12.5 continental tires
nice deep wheels
Front tubular black bumper
Rear Tubular Black bumper
Really nice Fender Flares
Lott's of goodies including stereo system.
Interior is clean but no inclinometer.
New Radiator
Headers,
Exhaust
Nice lights up front

The bad :
The Harmonic Balancer is Dead and is making a sick noise and has no pep.
Breaks Suck but thats normal on these runners
needs clutch fan
needs new ball joints up front
body was redone with bondo and is in okay shape.
Needs a new windshield ( but can still keep the old one for a while)
Hand Break Doesn't work
No towing package

Right now I'm leaning more towards the second one because the price is lower and Id like to fix it up myself, I think the 22RE is more reliable.

I'm going to use this a an daily driver and to go to school and such. Let me know what youguys think, I'l pot up some pics for yall to see ebcause pictures are worth a thousand words.

Thanks in advance,
Tim

I would pick the truck that has had the least amount of botchery done to it. I think you will be much better off starting with the cleaner truck. Fender flares hide a lot too. Just my.02
