Help a Dummy With Electrical Questions...

Ok, I'm not a dummy in real life but- I don't like electricity because I don't completely understand it.

So this is what I did- I installed a set of PIAA 520 ATP's on my truck, using the supplied harness, relay, etc. The installation went great, which makes me nervous. I ran the power to the switch right off the battery, instead of the high beams like the instructions said. Everything works great, the only drawback being the lights can turn on whether the vehicle is on or off. I'll get back to that.

I bought a Daystar rocker switch, and I want to use that instead of the nasty PIAA switch. The Daystar switch has a connection for a ground, along with two other connections. The PIAA switch only has two wires. What do I do? Should I play with the connections till the switch works, then fix them like that? Do I need to make another wire to connect to something?

Secondly- I don't mind they way the lights are wired. I want to operate them independently of the other lights. I am, however, a little nervous about them being able to turn on even when the ignition is off. Is there something I can do to maybe run the switch through the fuse box so it only works when the ignition is on?

Any help is appreciated. I also did a search and couldn't find the answer, or at least one I understood...

on the daystar switch, u noe the ground, the other two, one is the trigger, so u hook that to a hot source when key is on or hook up to parking lights, and the other one is the power that goes to the light.
so on the piaa switch, one of the two wire is a hot and the other one just makes a complete circuit.
heres an example of a catz harness hook up.

Thanks for the info, I got some more help from Antman. It worked out great, My switch works when the ignition is on, regardless of whether any other lights are on, and looks like it came with the truck.

Piaa switch should have 3 wires off of it:

1 goes to the switched power- you can tap this wire to the acc. or ign. fuse in the fuse box just below to the left of the steering in the cab

2 goes to the relay - this goes straight to the + battery terminal( fused with 20 amp

3 is just ground- this illuminates the LED on the switch

How did you end up wiring the fog lights....I want to do you set up.

The driving lights- They are set up so that I can turn them on and off independently of the other lights, as long as the ignition is on.

So which fuse did you tap......acc fuse?

I believe I tapped the fog light fuse. I used a mini Add-A-Circuit.
