Help and advice with a purchase

I have been searching for a 3rd generation 4runner. I found a 99 limited with 80K miles for sale that I like. It is for sale at a used car place. They showed me the car fax which shows three owners. There are no accidents just a few repairs. They are asking $9700 with a 3 month warn. From the research I have done the price is very good which is making me more cautious. I want to have this SUV for at least another 100K so looking to make a smart purchase. They said I could have my mechanic inspect it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I do all the buying for 13 stores that we have. send me a private message back with more info on the truck and where it is. I will check all the local auction reports and see if I can track down where they got the car and what thry paid for it. I will also send you the black book prices on that model. just find him a truck off an auction then, they are way cheaper. I.e. my truck was $1800.

That's a pretty fair price considering the mileage, especially if it is well cared for and in good condition. I'd definately take it to your own mechanic for a quick inspection and if it checks out well go for it!

Also, check around the forum and do a search - these things have very few regular issues which are pretty easy to check out. Climb under the vehicle and have a look down there too - especially if you plan on modding it. Any significant amount of rust will make your life much harder, and checking out the underbody of a vehicle is IMHO a good indication for the general care that's been given to it throughout it's life.

Incidentally, disregard everything JohnD says - he's comparing his beat up rusted out truck at $1800 with a '99 Limited with 80k miles? C'mon, that's ridiculous.

I think the Gen 3s are much better looking than the 4's. I just hope to make the right purchase that will last me a long time.
