help asap with Daystar lift

i am having the daystar 2.5/1.5 lift done to my truck with XREAS tomorrow and the guy at the shop say they need to relocate my rear shocks? i have read alot of the write ups on here and never heard of that? they have done 4runners with XREAS before but i never herd of this.

None of that is correct. There is NO relocation going on. These people probably have no idea what XREAS is or how it operates, or how the DAYSTAR kit works.

You do need to disconnect the physical shock to get the spacer on, but you reconnect it. Perhaps print out the install directions and show them? It is pretty straight forward. With a vehicle rack and nice air tools, they should be able to do it quick.

I think they are referring to the travel of the shock. Since I am lifting it the shock will now have less travel but if they move it so now it still has same travel as stock. Would it hurt anything if they did relocate it? Aslong as the don't disconnect the xreas
 
NO. Everyone on here who has installed the daystar can chime in to prove to you, there is 0 relocation going on with this kit. The kit is designed to work with the stock shocks at their current location..

What kind of relocation are they talking about? Welding a new shock mount? My advice, give them the instructions and say "read this, and follow". You should really do this yourself, but I are not. It is very easy job to do. You are paying them for their time and tools, don't let them over think this and F something up.
 
yea i have read so many write up on this and nobody relocated shocks thats why i made this post. i think they want to move the rear shock bolt at the bottom up some so i still have the same amount of travel as stock instead of 1.5 less because the spacer.

i would love to do this myself and it seems pretty easy but i have a newborn and work everyday and i have wrestling so i have no free time to do this...

what do you think would be the best write up to give them for install? i went to daystar site and they have instructions for the new top out kit i have the preload/topout kit.

For most all suspension lifts (except XREAS), when you lift you also get longer shocks as part of the lift. The reason is that the shocks can only travel so far up or down before they max out. The longer shocks compensate for this. With XREAS, it is technically possible to replace the shocks, but no one makes longer XREAS compatible shocks. You could also technically dump your XREAS system and replace it with a standard system, but that would mean throwing away a pretty decent system for on-road handling.

Relocating the XREAS shocks seems to be a best of all worlds option. You get to keep your XREAS system, you get to keep your lift, and the XREAS shocks won't be maxed out as easily as without the relocation.

All that being said, there are certainly a lot of people running Daystar and Revtek spacer lifts without the relocation mounts and I have yet to hear of a problem. Personally though, I would consider this as cheap insurance for your XREAS system.
 
As my boss says all the time. "Dont get paralysis by analysis".. One can over alalyze this all day. But bottom line is, hundreds of people have done the install without longer or relocations shocks and have not had any problems. If the shop keeps saying it needs to be done. I'd go elsewhere.

If your planning hardcore off roading, then the 2.5/1.5 isn't for you anyway. If your doing this for looks and maybe a bigger tire and an occasional trail. You will be ok just installing.

I was thinking the same thing. If you are planning on maxing the travel and doing it roughly, then you are going to be driving in a place that kills the XREAS regardless. It is a fragile system compared to other options.

This is usually why people start with this... love it. When the XREAS dies (and it will) they move on to bigger and better things.

If this is for looks, then you will not be maxing your travel and nothing to worry about at all.

I say relax.
 
you have a good point sparky. i guess i was looking at well maybe this is something that could better things and people start doing it. but do i really want to take the chance of it messing up or just go with what everyone else has done with the same lift... ill be safe and go with everyone else.

thanks to all the help and yea im just going for looks right now with a small trail or the beach. so no maxing anything out ( i live on the east coast so nothing like west coast guys lol). when do you think the XREAS will die? im at 105,000 miles now.
 
That really depends on what the truck has been through up to now. I've got over 130k on the original XREAS, but have only done mild offroading. I am planning on replacing all the suspension next year sometime for something that is designed for offroad.
 
so i called the shop back up and they said yea thats fine they dont have to relocate it. and that since they arent relocating it they will only charge 200 instead of 300 now. thats why i love this site

Oh it is fine huh? Where was that bit of advice from them early? Me thinks they wanted to milk you a bit....
 
yea they wanted to but im not someone who doesnt research things about my vehicle. the guys excuse was it will help off roading you will have the same travel of the shock at stock instead of a less travel now making you be able to perform better. so i just responded with i want to make it a mall runner its more for looks than off roading.
