Help - Brake questions 98 4Runner

I have a few questions about brake rotor and drum sizes I need.

From what I understand they made 2 different brake sizes...one for the 4Runners with 16" wheels and the other for stock 15" wheels.

I have a 98 4Runner SR5 Auto 4WD. The door sill says 225-75R15 tires. The original owner must have switched out the wheels and tires to the 265-75/16 set.

Not sure what brake size to order...I think some where like 11 11/16 of and inch and the others size I ran across was over 12 inches. I took the front wheel off today and from what I could tell the rotor was over 12 inches maybe 12 1/4 to 12 1/2...couldn't tell for sure without removing the caliper and rotor.

I took the rear wheel off and measured the drums too... the drums measure 12 1/2 inches on the outside of the brake housing.

I'm curious about this setup as I thought the SR5 model with stock 15"s (if that's what were stock on it) had the smaller rotors (smaller than 12"), but measuring them makes me think twice.

Oh and are the drums the same size on all models???

Here's some crappy cell phone pics if anyone can help.

There is only one size drum.

There are two sizes rotors for 15" and 15" wheels. You can tell which one you need by measuring your existing rotors.

15" has a diameter of 296.9 mm
16" has a diameter of 318.5 mm

You can measure the circumference and do the math to get the diameter. Diameter equals circumference divided by pi (3.14).
C= D x pi

Every 3rd gen 4Runner I've seen listed the P225/75R15 size on the door jam placard. That was the standard size. However, at least around here, I never saw one equipped that way on the lot when they were new. The larger optional size when so equipped was stated on the Monroney (window) sticker.

All of the 3rd gen 4x4 'Runners in this market that I ever saw, including my own '97, had the optional P265/70R16 tires and 16" wheels, and larger brake rotors.

Some people that had the optional 16" wheels and tires, often upsized to the 265/75R16 size, which is about 1" taller.

I'd say your 'Runner most likely came with the optional larger wheels, tires, and brakes.

Thanks for the info...it really looks like they are the larger brakes according to the brake sizes available. The two rotor sizes seemed to be either just under 12" or 12+". From what I can tell the brakes are definitely over 12", but thought it was weird that the door jam had the 15" wheel size listed.
