Help! Brother is stranded in Colorado Springs!

So, long story short, my brother has a 1999 4runner, 2XX,XXX on the body and 15-20,XXX on the motor.

He called me up while driving out in CO to go backpacking and told me his coolant reservoir cap blew off the reservoir and coolant spray all over engine bay. he was driving on the hwy and immediately pulled over and shut the truck off.

The reservoir was boiling, temp gauge on truck was normal, no engine light.... He was able to get the truck back to Colorado Springs and is laying low for the night with his buddy.

Theres not much I can do over the phone because I'm in Wisconsin...

Anyone in the CO area willing to lend a helping hand I would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Sadly can’t help your brother. I hope someone is able to help him and all goes well. But I can tell you that the same thing happened to me and it ended up being a bad thermostat.

If you can’t find someone on here that is local and can help, Google search “Colorado Springs 4x4 clubs”. I found at least two right at the top, Colorado 4 wheelers and Big Horn 4x4.

These clubs will usually be happy to lend a hand or advise and assist. Good luck!

does he have any mechanical ability... there r any # of things that can cause his symptoms, some very simple and some not so... what r u wanting/needing someone to help him with, basic diagnoses or full on repair?

I'm pretty sure he had a new thermostat installed with the rebuilt motor.. but I didn't work on it...

X's 2 on bad thermostat. Easy cheap repair. Also check hoses and cracks on the radiator while changing it out.
