Help buying 93 4r, overpriced?

Hey this is my first post:hello: I was wondering if anyone could give me advice about buy this '93 4runner, i went and saw it, rust free and a mechanic owned it, i really like it but not sure it worth what he's asking? i was gonna try and bring the price down a bit but dunno how much.

Any advice is really appreciated.

I would try to get him down to $3500-$4500 at most. It looks nice and the mileage is good, but when it comes down to it, it's still an 18 year old truck. It's also an automatic, which isn't good. The automatics on the 2nd gen 4runners are pretty lousy and suck a lot of power from the engine, which is weak to begin with.

Also, what do you plan to do with it? Personally, I wouldn't want to use something like that as a DD. 5" of lift is a lot.

No more than $4,000 for it as an automatic.

No more than $4,500 for it if it were a 5-speed.

"preventative maintenance" & "repairs" are two different things.

$5,500 my ass. He's trying to rip someone off.

it is pretty tho' -- if you REALLY wanted it, don't offer more than $4,500 MAX.

He's only had it for the last 10 months and already he's selling it. He must have got it dirt cheap somehow and now he's just trying to turn a sweet little profit. He probably doesn't really give a crap about that truck for what it is.

Well thanks guys for the quick response, i woulda probably gone out and spent 5000$ on it and ya im looking for a daily driver

In general, for a daily driver you'll want something unlifted and with stock or close to stock tires. Otherwise you'll be paying out the nose for gas. Mine gets roughly 15-20 mpg with 31" tires (1" larger than stock), no lift, and a manual transmission. The worst mileage I've measured to date was about 12-13 mpg, but that was overloaded and trying to keep up with 75-80 mph traffic on the highway. Most people with lifts and large tires can't get much better than 12-13 mpg, even on a good day.

I'd also recommend the manual for the reasons I gave earlier.

Of course, for what you're willing to pay, you're drifting into 3rd gen territory (at least here in the States - no idea what the 3rd gen market in BC is like). You may want to consider one of those. They have a much better engine, better gas mileage, and a better automatic transmission (if auto is a requirement for you).

In that case you do want one stock or close to it, as geolander said.
