HELP!! Can't get into programming mode for the keyless entry!!

I bought a 1998 4Runner SR5 about a month ago and it came with a dealer installed VIP RS3000 security system. Under the driver seat is the black box. However, the car did not come with the remote fob so i went to the Toyota dealer and bought a grey fob for the system. I went home tried the common programming instructions and i can't seem to get into the programming mode (the first automatic cycle). I tried EVERY variation and still nothing. All I know is the power locks work and I can easily manually lock and unlock the car without the alarm going off. The little security panel with the LED doesn't seem to flash locked or unlocked. PLEASE help i don't know if there might be a fault i should be looking at, something i might be doing wrong, something wrong with the car or even if the system still works. I have checked for days on the forum and I cant seem to find an answer. If I cant fix it I will probably head to the dealer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.:frog:

Does the remote lock and unlock doors or is it doing nothing? If it does lock and unlock, you may be in valet mode. Should be a small silver push knob down near the hood and gas release.
If it's doing nothing and won't program, there is an in line fuse that could be bad. The dash below steering wheel and around security flasher is easy to remove. If you follow the wires from flasher and valet button, you should find a fuse near the steering column.

The remote does nothing and I will check the fuse and valet mode tomorrow morning, but is it possible that maybe they changed the battery or did something that could turn off the system. I checked a little more and found that for 1998 you press the green button on the black box for 3 seconds then press the lock or unlock on the remote not the lock then unlock 5 times. So by doing that could it fix the system?

And BTW thank you for your help!!

I got a replacement remote, but never had to mess with box. The info I provided is all the info I have from personal experience and troubleshooting. Hope you get it figured out.
Battery replacement should not affect it. I have replaced mine and had it disconnected multiple times while working on vehicle.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm running into the same problem. I picked up another ecu but it still didn't work.

I can't get into programming mode to add a new remote.

Sounds silly, but it might be worth double checking the battery in the fob. Also, when I programmed, it failed many times because I was cycling the locks too fast. I slowed down to one cycle a second and finally entered programming mode.

Does yours have the little black box under drivers seat with a button that can be pressed? If so have you tried this?

All you have to do is locate the black box under the drivers seat. There is a security light on the center console near the rear window button.

1. Insert ignition key into the car and turn on too aux. Furthest without cranking.

2. Press the side button on the box under drivers seat for 3 seconds with a pen or small object (not 5 sec) till the security light is solid on the center console. If you wait 5 seconds it will blink and not work.

3. Press and hold the button on your FOB for about 1 second within the first 5 seconds of the security light going solid. You will hear a beep and or lights flash and the FOB is now programed.

4. Remove key, close doors and test FOB. On these models the FOB will not work when any door is open.

I'm trying to program a new ebay fob. My old fob still works but it's in pieces. Battery on new fob lights up.

My problem is I can't get the red status light to light up, putting it programming mode. I'm not even sure the red status light works. I guess that's my next step.

image.jpgHey automan can u hold down the button on the romeve to the point that the alarm goes off can yours do that if u hold the button down till the alarm goes off??? If it does trigger the alarm by holding the top button of the remove i might end it knowing whats your problem. If u get the lower cover off and the side panel where the rs3000 harness is located at u gona see a blue connector which is the one that make the power doors work and around that u might see 2 more blue connectors that are in a loop connected to eachother and if u see that just unplug those 2 blue connectors and those 2 connectors are from the rs3000 harness and u need to plug one end of those 2 blue plugs to the harness of the vehicle and the plug from the harness of the vehicle goes to the rs3000 harness. Here is a pic of what im talking about. Hope this work for you.

And something else i just read your post you mention you had a grey remot control for your rs3000 and i have a grey two botton remot control that does not work on the rs3000 that i have and my rig is a 98 as well so what i understand is that you need to have a black remote control in order to make the alarm work. I got me one from autozone is like $90 bucks and with that one i program it in a few secs i had it to work so you might want to check that out too
