HELP, Clunking noise on test drive, newbie needs advice.

Okay, here is what happened to me when I test drove an '06 Sport. When I got in, the selector switch was set on 4H. After starting the engine, with the shift lever in park, I moved the selector to 2H and started off. When we had gone 50 yards or so, now up to 5+mph, we hear a clunk-clunk-clunk sound which continued for another 200 yards or so. This can't be right, so I stopped, put shift in park, cycled selector switch through all settings, rolled back, rolled forward (the salesman was with us, agreed with what I was doing) reset to 2H and went on down the highway. No sounds above about 30mph (maybe wind noise blocked it?), when we slowed down the noise returned. What's up?

Obviously I did not buy this 4R, but I liked it, it is "Certified", and unless you all think otherwise, I would still consider buying it if they get this problem fixed.

Can't say exactly what it was but when shifting from 4H to 2H do so while driving along instead of while you are parked. I always switch over @ 20mph plus if I can to help speed up the process of switching over. Plus did you notice the little green vehicle symbol on the right side of the instrument cluster saying you were in 4WD. Its basically 4 wheels with the front 2 turned to the right.

I wouldnt even bother with this 4runner, if you dont own it yet, just walk away! And it sounds like its a "Certified" piece of crap!

Yeah, that certified crap they pull is a piece of crap. Before I got my Runner, I did a little searching and went to a lot and it was certified and they wanted 20k for a vehicle with 76k miles on it. I told them they were smoking dope and when I test drove their "certified" vehicle, the rotors needed turning bad and the sales guy try to say that he did not feel it and I showed him and and he finally believed me and they had all 4 rotors turned, and the back hatch had a dent in it. Of course I did not get that Runner and took my business elsewhere. So take that Certified word with a grain of salt cause that is their only reason of jacking up the price. And if you do find a good one that is certified, take your time and analyze EVERYTHING they did on the so called 120 point inspection they do and if they did not do it, have them do it!
